This question has been asked many many times. There are always ways of doing it of course but it really matters just how far you are willing to go to do it. You could rewrite the UBB code to point of using the PHPnuke database to store and retrieve member info. You could even write scripts that keep the database sync'd with the UBB member files and only allow registration on one of them. You could use the UID of the database to equate to the member number in the UBB.
I've heard some extremely creative theories on how this can be done but most if not all of them require some intensive coding to perform.
