This is what I did:

First I installed, Dave Downin login hack.

in forumdisplay.cgi

find:

Step #1
add under:
--------------------------------------------------
&get_cookie;
if ($cookie{UserName}) {
$LoginText = qq($cookie{'UserName'} [ logout ]

I only added it to the forumdisplay, and active.cgi right now.
But all you have to do is add step #1 somewhere in your code, adding step #2 is easy
