I voted Perl for 1 reason...

PHP might be easier to learn, but not really..... They are both fairly close language wise..... If you only ever plan on using this for the web, then by all means learn PHP..

But in the end you will have far more uses with Perl than you will with PHP...

Why? Perl isn't just for web apps.. You can write any kind of script with it on just about any OS...

With PHP you are pretty much stuck with webpages only..

Getting Perl/CGI or mod_perl to work in the start might be a lot harder than figuring out how to use PHP though, but it's worth learning..
