My new server is almost ready, so we will be doing the upgrade shortly!
The bad news is that Infopop quoted me a HUGE amount to port some of the old database from the old server onto the new server. []/forum/images/icons/frown.gif[/] []/forum/images/icons/frown.gif[/] I guess I'll have to figure that out on my own. We had a big system crash three weeks ago and lost all of our old posts but on the plus side the site is MUCH faster. []/forum/images/icons/tongue.gif[/]
Is there any speed difference between the PHP and Perl versions? Does the PHP version open (and leave open) as many database calls as the old Perl version?
This is some of the software we are planning on installing on the new server:
. Linux kernel update
. MySQL 3.23
. Apache (and mod_perl/mod_php4,)
. IPTABLES linux firewall
. A reporting package to work with the IPTABLES firewall
. AutoUpdate
. OpenSSH
