The "default" would be in the "data" subdirectory of the location where MySQL resides in. Each database in it's own directory (same name as the database).
But I'm not familiar with multi-user setups and don't know how the structure would be in that case.
Edit: Sorry, I'm talking about the default structure on Windows based servers, not Unix.
