I'm about ready to venture into Linux territory myself. Have an old 486 that I was told will handle it. I'm going to install Red Hat 7.2 because that's what's on the Ensim server that my site is on (with 3 other sites). Once I learn my way around I'm hoping to learn some basic sys admin to help manage it.
I have heard that the download takes FOREVER (6 discs). Since I'm on 28 bps dialup - on a good connection - that wasn't a very attractive option. So I asked around and managed to find a local Linux guru who is going to lend me his discs. Then I can burn a copy here so I can reinstall it if I break it! Hopefully will get to it next week. This should be fun!!!
