i decided to do a favor for my father-in-law and set him up with a wireless router, so he could share his cable with his desktop and laptop (which he could use wirelessly).

SO I picked up a 802.11b router and laptop card which I got a nice deal on.

The one I got him didn't have a built in print-server, so I told him, I'd swap the routers with the one I have at home (which does, and wasn't being used).

Fine.

This weekend, I took my router, and went to switch them. They are both SMC's, so I unplugged his, and plugged in mine.

Fiiiiizzzzz

I didn't look, didn't think to, but the voltage was different on the two models, which are nearly identical. His was running at 9 volts, mine at 5. So when the 9 volts when streaming through my router...all of the lights suddenly went out

Needless to say, he'll have to stick with the newer one, sans print server, and I went out to buy a new one for myself.

I picked up the new AirPortExtreme base station, and had it up and running within 10 minutes. (I have spend hours working on the other ones (linksys and smc). I wish other things in life were as easy as mac
