the cpanel issue was not so much about my frontend using, but their backend installation. the shared plan i have now uses it, and they said in order to move everything over smoothly and quickly, the new plan would have to have it. if i didn't install it, the transition would be mostly my moving everything over and re-setting up the database n'such ... which is not exactly my specialty
i've tried streamlining what i can on the site, but based on the latest reports i've seen, i'm still too far away to go back. looks like i have to go up to the VPS, so i'll probably take you up on your offer!
