I just have a question on this, not that what I say will make a difference or not.
UBBDEV admins and mods seem to have good contact with InfoPop, so why don't you try to work out something inbetween?
Basically what I mean is this, ok there were/are probably many hacks for the freeware version that have code straight out of the full version, but there are also many that have fresh code by people learning programming that add function to the board without infringing on infopops copyrites.
So intellectually infopop is styming creativity of young minds that are building future skills for tomorrows web apps.
Many other software/hardware vendors have sucessfully handled these type of issues by sub-licencing in this case "infopop" approved addon's.
Infopop let's you submit your hacks and approves them for distrubution, you get a tick mark on your resume for having recognised authoring, infopop controls it's software modifications and copyrites.
