Motorola's last two quarterly reports have been hinting this is coming. Sure the phones sell well, they just don't sell as well as some of the other manufactures now and the big issue at hand is the cost of manufacturing and the low markup on them for Motorola.
Motorola has a
long history of being the first or one of the first large manufacturers to produce almost every new consumer electronic device and then suddenly leaving that market after 5-10 years since they feel that the market has been saturated with product. Just to name a few they did this with was: AM radios, TVs, CBs, VCRs, and personal communication radios. Next is cell phones.
