I'm in the Online Apps II class @ my school, and our group is considering redesigning our school's webpage. We have a couple ideas for some more interactive features, but they need Perl. (NewsPro and a poll script are two of them...) Anyway, we were talking to the Tech Dept. about the server, and apparently our school's entire server (website, fileserver, and everything) is run by Win98 and Novell. And the main Tech lady doesn't know anything about Perl. Since it's Win98 and she doesn't know anything about it, I'm assuming there isn't any Perl interpreter on our server, which would generally serve to detract from us running perl scripts . So my question is, is there any way to run Perl scripts from a Win98 server? Thanks so much for any help! ---Skorpion

Redundant statements.... Win98 as the server is absolutely horrible. See if you can talk them into at least upgrading the server to win2000. They're asking for trouble otherwise. But yes, Activestate makes the win version of Perl. It will run on win98, but you will find problems if the scripts you are trying to run use the flock command, which doesn't work on 9x, but does on 2k and NT --mark

Activestate, then? Alright, I will tell her about that.
Yes, I do believe she must by slightly deranged, but she doesn't exactly strike me as the brightest match in the box... I will talk to the *other* tech dept. person, who I hope will be a little more knowledgeable about the subject...

I recommend Nusphere MySQL to run Perl scripts under Windows. Nusphere MySQL comes with Apache Server (mod_perl :)), Perl 5.6, PHP4, MySQL, and PHPMyAdmin. Philipp
