Since I finished making my hacks list site (link in the signature) Strict XHTML'd + CSS'd, I want to make some (or all of required) links open a new window, however target="_blank" isn't accepted in Strict XHTML. I searched for a long time in search engines, and all I found was and , but both of them included "* Doesn't work with Strict XHTML". Is there anything that works with Strict XHTML?

I don't know why there's a problem with that, but I'll look it up. In the meantime, does this work for you?

It's not THAT important, I'll leave it strict.

That it doesn't recognize 'target' attribute.

Just use the transitional doctype, because the doctype you use doesn't make that much of a difference. The target attribute obviously isn't in the XHTML 1.1 spec.

Check out this for an example.

I know it's validated in transitional, that's why I always mentioned 'strict'! wink

Like I said before, it's not so important, it's more important to use strict wink

It's not even important to use a strict doctype, though. In theory, the doctype should be on a level of semi-importance, with widespread use, but in practice, it makes little difference as to which one you pick.

Plus, if you don't plan on ever using XML for your pages, a transitional doctype is more than enough.
