whoakay. im currently learning the basics of applying various style changes on my boards.

things i'd like to change:

font sizes -- 2 is too big. 1 is too small. id like to point-size select them (which i think i know how to do already)

java buttons -- like the "preview post" button. to change them from the standard 3d look to something flat and based on my color pallette

pulldowns -- like the "hop to" pulldown. to also change them to something in my font / color pallette1

typing fields - like the one im typing in now. same deal.

in reading thru this forum over the past few days, i can see many have tried different ways to do all of this, from individual coding to mass style sheet implementing. im just looking for the best suggestions for my new 6.5 board?

You look to be using the JCTemplate set... you should look at the default JC styles and CSS files to get a feel for the way things work.

Also you can probably use Allen's CSS templates (from forum design interface forum, or with the css style changer from beta forum), and edit the css files for the changes you want.

I guess it really depends on the extent you want to modify your board. I modified my board using UBB's default files, but that's my preference. From a user's perspective that may be too cumbersome. So the JC and Allen's CSS templates may be the perfect solution since the CSS is already mapped out. smile

hey guys -- thanks for all the responses!

i should have included a link to my beta boards, here . those are the ones im trying to apply the styles on (but you're right, double C -- my old boards, here , are using blam's JC templates).

my only real experience with editing style sheets are from working on my old boards, with bookie's blam.css file. that, of course, kept me limited to just editing one CSS file (since all the templates already had the references in place).

right now, in my new boards, i've already installed the compact headers as well as made template adjustments on my own (so im afraid of rewriting all that with allen's CSS files).

all that said, is the JC idea still the way to go? ill just find and install that hack, and edit as necessary? is there some other way to make things easier by just editing one CSS file (or something?)

If you like the JC look, go with them... a lot of the stuff you've done is already about halfway done with them. Allen's CSS templates would be the way to go otherwise.

In any case, most stock hacks won't work with either without some manual intervention.. i.e. multihack wouldn't be useful.

The alternative to all of this would be to manually find and add a class attribute to everything you want to twiddle with...

PT:

my old / current boards are 95% bookie's blam style set. i modded some of it myself, as far as colors and layout, etc, however the backbone of everything is his. the actual site, all the flash and the graphics and animation n'stuff is all me. i can't code to save my life, but i can make things pretty smile (and this is why its not up!!)

CC:

i think ill look into the JC stuff for now, since you think im closer to them, anyway. the only reason id lean towards AA's at this point would be for the "mystyle" switcher ability, but hopefully i can add just that feature at a later time anyway.

thanks for the help guys -- i'll need it!

ok, half down! i added LK's 6.3 "mystyle" (which only needed a few simple mods for 6.5 compatability).

silly question, but... where is the best / most recent JCTemplate discussion thread here? i found dozens of them, but they all lead in separate directions (for various reasons).
