Try re-hacking your forumdisplay.cgi or ubb_libary2.pl. I'd say thats where your problem is.

Well most likely the bit you just hacked? If thats what caused the problem, then the error os within the hacked code. As Lord said, id redo the hack and try again.

Thought I had found the problem, but I haven't.
I've rehacked the files and I still have the same problem.

Hmmm sounds like the hack might be missing a print to file statement??? Thats the only reason it wouln't be there, OR the variable was blank at the time of writting.

It writes the information when post are replied to. Everything works fine then. However when I updates threads through the contorl panel or someone deletes a post or reply, the forumx.threads file is then written without the last poster information.
I've searched the files and tried to figure out what is missing to no avail.
Anyone know of anyone who has installed the hack successfully?

Hmmm ... Quite strange. Seems like an error when hacking one of the cp cgi files that is responsible for the updating of threads. But if you said you'e installed it correctly then, hmmmm... These kinds of problems are always the hardest to fix Do you have any other hacks on your board? Possibly try and setup a fresh test board on your server and just install this hack. If if fails then who knows whats wrong. I have a version of this hack I used on my board and it works fine so I could send that to you if yours contains errors.

I did follow the instructions, twice, but you never know if you might be making the same mistake you made before. The hacks I have installed are Non-SSI thread counter Members on-line (modified to just display a number at the top) Last Reply By I'll try to start with fresh files on one of my 5 ubbs. http://www.esportfans.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi4/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true Is the main board that I want to work right.

OK. I uploaded fresh files all the way around. No hacks installed. I then did the last reply by hack and I am still having the problem that when I delete a post or reply or when I rebuild the fields through the general settings in control panel, the last reply by is destroyed.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I have no idea what!

don't see a threads.file should there be a file called threads.file? I see forumstyle.file, lastnumber.file, and lasttime.file

If there isnt a forum.threads file then something is very wrong, this file stores information for each and every thread in that forum category, there is one per folder/forum. It exists in your ubb/forumX directory

The forum#.threads file is there.
Sorry I was reading the post literally and looking for threads.file.
The forum#.threads file IS there. Everytime a post is written the last poster info is added.
Can someone with the hack installed and working let me see one of there forum#.threads files? I have a suspicion it isn't being written properly.
Alright, I'm grasping for straws here!

So the forum#.threads files are being written the same. So that isn't the problem.
I'm out of ideas on how to isolate the problem.

My advice...for what it is worth...is to try to re-hack your ubb_library file one more tim...be VERY careful with the additions that have to do with $itemline and $newline. There are some specific instructions about these bits of code. I am not implying you have mucked it up....just 2 cents coming from the outside. Chances are you already did this, so just tell me. Good luck!!

I'll try rehacking the ubb-library.pl file again.
Odds are it is soemthing of that sort. I'm probably messing something up the same way over and over again.
I appreciate all ideas!
