Couple of problems with final release.

1) The link to the smilies legend in the FAQ only works when I clear my cache via the control panel. Then, it will work one time, but no more. I have to clear my cache before the pop-up smilies legend page will show.

2) In the control panel, under "check smilie directory," the table seems corrupt. the "yes x" that shows up to the right of the smilies is repeated in a bar every few smilies like so:

smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
yes ........................... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
yes ............................. x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
yes .............................. x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x
smilie name ... pic of smilie ... yes ... x

See what I mean? I've got 98 smilies, and neither of these is that big of a problem, because the hack is working great, but I just thought you should know.

Thanks!!!!!

i added this hack to my version 6.04d and also had the problem mentioned above about UBB code buttons being aligned differently now.

i liked them better aligned the way they were, is there a way to change them back and still have this hack?

thanks in advance if anyone replies

the reason why this is done is because if you have only the dropdown turned on, the ubb code box ends up looking odd. you can correct this by oppening up public_common (template) and finding the code for the ubbcodebutton images and inserting a
tag every 2 images instead of how the mod tells u to.

um.....where's the readme.txt for this hack? I'm just wondering. I found one, but its a little small and doesn't have much info in it. Could you possibly do an overall one so that all of the steps are in one readme.txt?

i take it that you didnt even read the readme.txt that you found in the install folder... if you had, you would know what to do.

no, I did read it for your information. god. It was the one that looked like it was a gold readme.txt. I just didn't know where to go from there, no need to get snippy. ^_^ anyway, I guess that helped.....a lot.:rolleyes: I guess I'll ask someone else then.

I don't have the version downloaded anymore, but if I recall, the readme.txt starts off by telling you to choose either install or install_ubbcodebuttons (if you want to keep your ubb code buttons). Once you install those, you've got a separate set of instructions for your wordlets. Just open all the text files and that should help you find which ones you need to start with.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Reason I asked is your instructions suggest that all instances of $smilie_list and $vars_wordlets{instant_graemlins} (in all 4 editor templates) close the table rows before grabbing the UBB code buttons. (Mine don't) Those segments get replaced with your &SM_instant; routine with carries it's own table formatting. While the mod worked fine, I wasn't able to match it up with the existing UBB code button table. It just never looked right. Bummer for me because it's a spectacular mod. frown

this hack is great ! laugh

got some probs with the installation with multihack, but now it works fine ! wink

$TBB

# Replace It With This
#######################

the_message

&SM_instant;

print<

But the code button install does not turn off table rows () in the header or the function call before the UBB code segments. So, going to this same section in your smiliemod_install.txt file I see:

This is what I'm expecting to see for a code button install and I suspect that those code buttons were defined and incorporated into the &SM_instant; call earlier in the hack. So humor me and check those 2 manual install instruction files and see if they may possibly have gotten named basakwards.

Obviously I'm missing something here, so I'll ask again. This time I'll quote directly from your smiliemod_ubbcodebuttons_install.txt file for manual install.

For the editor templates you say:
# Find This In Each
######################

$TBT

$smilie_list

$smilie_list

$ubb_code_buttons

DPK ~ I was hoping you would respond, clarifying why the manual install instructions for this mod do not match the standard installed code. Since you did not respond, I will... You have the manual install instructions named backwards in your zip. Please correct and update the download file. Thanks

Hello,

I installed the mod (manually), and when i try to post a message i get the following error :

/:???:/: nested *?+ in regexp at /home2/hispatol/public_html/foros/ubb_lib.cgi line 196.

The line 196 on my ubb_lib.cgi is :

$_[0] =~ s/$smchar/ /sg;

If i comment the line it works fine, but then, in the message, instead of displaying the smilie, it displays the code ("cool" instead of the smilie, replace the " for smile

What's going on???

Thanks

One of your smilies you have defined is probably causing an error because it uses an ascii character that, to put it simply, screws it all up.

This should fix you up. Looks like I may have to release a v1.1 soon, but until then, try this and see if it works:

find (ubb_lib.cgi):
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, Arial">code:

add after:
Code
code:

Basically, if you have a character that conflicts that you want to use. Just add a new $smchar line in that area with the char.

Emperado, if this doesnt work, pm me your vars_smilie.cgi file contents and I'll take a lookee.

I just had an idea. Instead of having a separate list for "instant graemlins", why not just hyperlink the "message icons", so they work like "instant graemlins". That way, you can use all your icons without having them in 2 separate lists.

I was just wondering if i was the only one getting these errors . . .? confused

1. Check to make sure you have the latest multihack version.
2. SmilieMod 1.1 will be out by Sunday with updated files, install fixes, and maybe something else. Dunno yet if I feel like adding something new.

As my english is not the best I am working with pics wink :

[Linked Image]

I added the hack and some smilies and they are shown like above in the list.

1) Is it possible to have the correct size of each smilie ?
2) Why they do not animate in the preview ?

For the smilies list this is what I am getting. Any ideas on how to fix it, please? The hack works perfctly, it's just this part of it that seems off. Thanks!

Awesome hack, DPK. I have 250 or so smilies and the new drop-down box feature (barring the last version I was using was 0.3 -_-) is great. My users love it. I love it also because adding all the smilies was as easy as clicking the add button on the load smilies directory page. laugh

With the error I reported yesterday, here's some more information. It only occurs after those smilies named like 1.gif, 2.gif, etc. If they are named something like "cutesmilie.gif" there is no error, and if it is named 32.gif or a two digit name there is no error. That should help you narrow it down, and thanks for acknowledging my post.

MZ:

1. To make the size of your smilies their normal sizes, goto the cp section for smilies and then advanced smilie settings. Change the width and height settings for smilies to 0 and then hit submit.
2. The reason that the smilies stop animating after you click them is a browser issue with javascript. It is not really avoidable as of yet. I think in IE6 it does work though. I have xp pro beta running at home, I'll check after I get off work.

Wow! eek

First, I just went through this entire thread, and I have to say that it is most enlightening to watch a hack develop from its infancy to adulthood.

Now, I have a couple questions. laugh

  • This is a "duh!" question :-) -- this smilie hack, is it for the "message icons" or for the "Instant Graemlins"? I honestly don't know because I kept seeing the two mixed together in the different posts;
  • If I have other hacks installed in my UBB, will installing this hack affect them?
  • When you install these hacks, do you do so on an operating board -- or do most of you have a "test board" up and running?

I'm beginning to think that I should create a test board so that I can try out some of these other hacks before installing them to my current board.

Oh, I have one other question -- maybe a little off topic -- if I try to place more than 8 images in a post, I receive a message saying that I cannot do this. Once, I was using AOL's browser when this happened, and when I clicked on the back button, my entire post was gone. mad

Is there a good reason for the 8 images per post; is there any way to adjust it?

Thanks!

ADWOFF:

1. It's for the graemlins.
2. It shouldn't affect other installed hacks.
3. It is your decision whether or not to install this mod on an existing or a test board. If you want to be safe, try a test board.
4. There is a mod that you can use to disable or increase the image limit of the ubb. You can find it here .

Thanks for the reply, DPK.

I have another question regarding test boards; is there anyone out there who has set-up a test board for UBB sites to go and check out these MODs?

I read so many of these hacks, and before attempting to add them to my board, I'd love to see them in action. I don't want to sign up for messageboards just to see the hacks in action. Know what I mean?

Thanks!

I THINK I'm getting a JavaScript error with it. Dog-gone IE 6.0...

About 60% of the time when I go to click a smiley from the instant graemlin box, an error pops up.

It says: A runtime error has occured, Do you wish to debug? Line 0 unexpected function.

AND...whenever I click one, they ALL stop moving...

Sorry if this has been addressed before... i noticed that the custom titles are not reported correctly in the various "profile" screens (your own and others' profile). I used this little hack to correct this:

##### in ubb_lib.cgi (cgi-bin dir) find:

sub CustomTitle {
local($custom_title);

if ($_[0] eq 'Administrator') {
$custom_title = "$vars_misc{AdminTitle}";
}
elsif ($_[0] eq 'Moderator') {
$custom_title = "$vars_misc{ModeratorTitle}";
}
elsif ($_[0] eq 'Member') {
$custom_title = "$vars_misc{MemberTitle}";
} elsif ($_[0] eq 'Junior Member') {
$custom_title = "$vars_misc{JrMemberTitle}";
}

return($custom_title);
} # end customer title sr

### change that to:

sub CustomTitle {
local($star_status);

if ($_[0] eq "Administrator") {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{AdminTitle}";
} elsif ($_[0] eq "Moderator") {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{ModeratorTitle}";
} else {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{NewbieTitle}";

if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{JrMemberPosts}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{JrMemberTitle}";
}
if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{MemberMinimum}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{MemberTitle}";
}
if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{Member1Posts}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{Member1Title}";
}
if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{Member2Posts}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{Member2Title}";
}
if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{Member3Posts}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{Member3Title}";
}
if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{Member4Posts}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{Member4Title}";
}
if ($_[1] > $vars_misc{Member5Posts}) {
$star_status = "$vars_misc{Member5Title}";
}

}

return ($star_status);
} #end hack

##### in: cp_users.cgi,ubb_lib_posting.cgi,ubb_pm.cgi,ubb_profile.cgi (all in cgi-bin)

##find:
&CustomTitle($user_profile[8]);

###change that to:
&CustomTitle($user_profile[8],$user_profile[7]);

#end

Hope this helps...
btw, compliments on this beautiful hack, my users LOVE it smile
