Just a quick port from the 6.2 version.. Please note that I haven't had permission to port this hack, and if anyone involved with the hack wishes me to take down the zip file, please let me know.
Name: News Fader
Description: Places a category at the top of your Forum Summary which is only used for News. Several peices of news can be placed and they will fade on to each other.
That's what I thought, but it doesn't change the width of the actual Forum, rather the typing I think.... Unless it's supposed to, then there might be an error.
I have the JC templates but I removed that line your talking about. Did you place the fader code right after "sub Normal_Table_Top {" in public_forum_summary.pl?
I seem to remember something about it being after the "end mods column" and that would have the effect that you're seeing. I don't have the code in from of me so I can't be sure...anyone else?

I did that and somehow it gets screwed up with the JC public_forum_summary.

I have this same problem. Does anyone know how to correct it?

I have this same problem. Does anyone know how to correct it?Me too! I want mine to appear where Netwerkin's is. HELP!
The hack works great on our V6.3.1.1 UBB except for this.......

Issue #1) I realize that you can set the width of the news fader. We have our boards width set to 660 in the control panel, yet if I set the width of the news fader to be anything above about 530, it makes the width of our boards wider. However, if I made it less than about 550, our text messages break onto the next line. Any ideas on why this is the case? Is it because of the layout I set up for the boards in the header and footer? (It's all in a larger table)
Issue #2) There's extra space underneath the fading headlines. It looks like a paragraph break, but I didn't see one in the source code anywhere. I also thought fade.gif being 640x50 might be part of the problem, so I set it to a shorter and narrower size, but that didn't do anything either. What accounts for this extra space?
I'm stumped on this one, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Edited to add that I've played around with a couple things, and realize that when it starts off, the cell is one line high, but as soon as it shows my boards statistics, it goes to the height with the extra spacing. In case that helps.
Well at this point in time, I've solved issue #1 in my above post, but not #2. Anyone have any idea why there's extra space under our fader messages, in that same cell? Even setting the fader.gif height to 25px (instead of 50px) didn't help. And the extra height is driving up looney. Hope someone has an idea! Thanks guys!

find:
code: [qb]
Code
<td width="100%" height="49"><div id="elFader"
[/qb]
And look for height="49" (that's the default box height) change that "49" to like 30 or something. My boards New Fader is set to 20 or 25 i think, look -->( Planethex UBB Forums )
Thanks Cuzz. Unfortunately, I tried that and it didn't seem to help. I've currently got height="20" in that part of public_forum_summary.pl, and even went down to 0px. All that seemed to do was change the height that the little 'jump' in the height directly before the messages appear. I even tried uninstalling it completely and doing it over from scratch. Still the same.

Edited to add that I scrapped it and jiggered my own solution which works pretty well for us.

No amount of tinkering with the HEIGHT settings seem to change the table height for me, and in the CP, it only shows a blank line where I figure it should say "News Fader"...
For those of you only wanting 1 line of text at a time, I just found a great fix...
Open: public_forum_summary.pl
Look for FDRboxHgt = 43; -- set number lower (I'm using 15)
Look for height="49" -- again, I'm using 15.
I know the 2nd line has been mentioned previously, but I have not seen where the first has been... I had immediately changed the 2nd line when I installed the hack, but untill I also reduced the 1st number, nothing changed.
* Now, if I can just figure out how in the hell the get the NewsFader on top of the box that says FORUM - TOPICS - POSTS - Etc... I'll be ecstatic! [ ]
I've had WORDLETS installed for quite awhile now, but if there is a specifc segment of code that I should look for, would it be possible to have somebody post it for me..?
I have read through this topic, and found a few questions the same as mine, but no answer. My question is: When I install this hack, I find that the newsfader appears below the "Forum Name" "Moderator" etc.. Can someone please help me? Thanks!
Strange, I installed this and it worked first time for me in 6.3. I noted the above with reference to the cell size, that was my only bug about it, so I'll try and adjust it with that.
when i copy that it doesn't copy spaces, so it is all drawn out horizotnally when i paste it..I am trying to just copy and paste it to replace the old coding..Please help!
I have a new and interesting question that pertains to the spacing in this hack...
I just purchased a new 19" monitor (Sony Multiscan G410), and have obviously increased my screen res. I went from 17" @ 800x600 to the new 19" set at 1024 x 768, but now there is such a large difference in the centering offset of the NewsFader script. I have adjusted the NewsFader CP to reflect 900 pixel width, but now am receiving complaints from the guys with the smaller monitors.
What I would like to do, is have it set as a percentage (95%) to match the characteristics of the rest of the board, to allow for the "float" for various screen resolutions.
I'm still using 6.3.1.2, and need to know if this is a possibility..?
