UBB.Developers Forums UBB.threads 7 Development How Do I? Problems on UD-UBB

Many members have noticed many DNS errors, slow or unresponsive reaction/loading, page not found 404s, CGI timeouts, other issues that have been seen are: Some Forums generate index pages which show the index twice (Member-to-Member Support, Member Lounge, and Trash Talk at last check). New posts in some threads in these forums are taking upto 5 minutes to actually appear in the thread. Some threads will refuse to load, but then later work correctly.

We are running 6.04e and some of us suspect some of these problems are due to the fact that we have over 23,000 members. 3,000 more than the recomended max. Others say it may be fragmented servers or too many old posts just taking up room on the forum servers. These are just speculation and we would like some suggestions.

BTW, I have nothing to do with UBB, but I have kept up on these issues and our UBB boards enough that I have become the 'spokesman' to find out some options to suggest to Brian(the UBB webmaster.)

Old version + underperforming server + too many users == horrid problems.

You should seriously look into upgrading to Threads...

At least upgrade to 6.1.0.4...

Or 6.2 when it's out tomorrow.

We also have a resetting Who's Online v3.8Qd. Could this be a related problem also?

And would a newer version really help us or should we think of another forum format?

install 6.2, trun on ubb accle, and the hack to compress topics with a cgi buffer, if that dosent help look to ubbt or other forum systems with a database backend, like vB or open topic.

Dude, definately drop the 6.04... Go to 6.2 when it's out tomorrow - it includes an implementation of WOL.

If you still get problems, THEN look at Threads....
