Yes you can...you need to enable PWS (personal web server) and you'll have to download Perl at the very least. You can do this a variety of ways but this will get you started.

UBB v6.3 won't run on Windows 95/98/ME. It was possible with UBB v6.2 with some modifications (installation of a Perl module for handling some file locking commands native to UNIX/Linux, and slight modifications to ultimatebb.cgi and cp.cgi), I used to do that... but with UBB 6.3 even that's not possible anymore. Well, I never tried the PWS in fact, only Apache under Win98 SE, but if it runs, it won't run properly because of Windows's lack of file locking handling. Requirements in a nutshell are: Unix/Linux or Windows NT/Windows 2000 operating system, Perl v5.x, PHP v4.0 or higher and a web server (Apache, IIS, etc). ActiveState Perl PHP Apache

I thought that the file locking issues on FAT32 had been fixed.

Hmmmm I guess that leaves out NuSphere as an option then (very cool suite for people wanting a quick and easy way in).

I think all XP versions will work with UBB.

I bought Pro because I thought home doesn't have IIS Edit: http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/expertzone/newsgroups/faq/default.asp quote: Windows XP Home Edition does not include or support any versions of Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS).
quote: (Note: IIS does not run on Windows XP Home Edition.)

Correct, LK, XP Home cannot run IIS or PWS (there is a bizarre way of hacking into the dll's to "fix" it, but I personally wouldn't attempt something like that). So XP Pro should be the only version that would be able to run a UBB.

That won't stop it from running Apache. Please be warned that XP and 2k running over FAT32 is unsuitable for UBB - it has to be on an NTFS partition. (FAT32 is laggy and causes bizarre errors...)
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.
