Hi ya folks,

I have v5 and would like very much to upgrade to the latest version.

After reading the posts here and Charles Capps' page about what the ubb6 is about, I'm really worried about doing the upgrade. frown

Admittedly, I'm a code hack installer per Charles' description on his page. I'm not a Perl programmer but I've managed to install about 20 hacks at my site.

* How difficult is it to go from v5 to v6?

* Is it simply a "reinstall"?

* Are there any hacks I need to remove from v5 first before I do the upgrade?

* Any other tips/tricks to avoid any pitfalls/problems?

Would appreciate your help/advice.

Thanks,
Errol

The upgrade was a easy imo. I've helped do about 12 upgrades for different sites/people on this board and others needing assistance. Pretty much just backup, then follow the steps.

If you backup ya files, you have no worries.

oh yeh, sorry.. don't worry about any hacks you have installed. Once the update is complete you won't have any. The board uses all new files from my understanding so it doesn't reference any old addition files at all.

hmmm... you mean the extra fields in members profile is not an issue anymore?

1) The actual upgrade is *VERY* easy - just upload the files, set proper permissions, and run the upgrade script.

2) See above. smile

3) You'll only have issues if you have additional member profile fields, and those can be easily cleared out by using a utility cobbled together by Copy Cat, available in the Chit Chat forum

Thanks folks.

Appreciate the reassuring words.

Charles, when you say "additional member profile fields", are you talking about things like AIM or Yahoo IM in the member profile?

Thanks,
Errol

Yes, exactly. Those will need to be removed from the profiles before upgrading.
