after some recent... shennanigans ( mad ) im moving from one server to another, and takin my ball (message boards) with me!

so, whats the best/fastest way to do that, without losing / screwing up my forums / posts / members, etc?

can i cute ftp from one server to another? ftp everything to my hd, then back up to the new server?

i tried a little bit of both (and screwed up a little bit of both), but im not the smartest when it comes to all the techie side (im an art geek, not a tech geek smile )

any help would be greatly appreciated, the sooner, the better.

reply, pm, email... whatever.

thanks!!

hmm... thought i could set up cute ftp so that i could ftp from one to another, but, that dudnt seem to be workin out right.

so, i ftp'd EVERYthing board-related (including each n'every post) to my hd, which ill now try to upload back up to the new server.

unfortunately, i dunno what gets screwed up in the process, and what i need to edit, change permissions on, etc.

just be sure and transfer everything forum-related except images in ascii... setting permissions on all that takes time as well. Post here if you get stuck.

If you have telnet access on both servers you could tar the entire site with permissions in-tact and then just untar on the new server. That is the easiest method, but you must have telnet access on both ends to do it.

doh. no telnet on the old server. they dont like me much anymore wink

anyway, i was able to grab most stuff, just by downloading to my machine, then re-uploading back.

some boards are funky, tho.

i mean, on some boards ("misc," for example) im able to post and reply, easy as pie.

however, on other forums (like my important "9-11-01" folder), when i try to reply or start a new post, i get this error:

pin-pointed the problem to the styles, and, have reworked them.
