Sorry about that last "test" post... I was unaware that I would be unable to delete it.
A couple of request, questions, whatnot. I apologize if they are FAQs... I skimmed the topics here and saw nothing similar.
I frequent a board that uses UBB. It's interface is all you can ask for, and it's very pretty, but there are some weaknesses in your control over the content of actual posts.
One thing is the lack of an unadorned
<pre> or
[pre] command. The
tag works, but it puts a bunch of unnecessary junk around your code, like the horizontal rules, and the totally redundant 'code:' heading (it's code, duh!). Take a hint from the years of textbook typesetting: all that formatting drama surrounding a snippet of code is just distracting, and a waste space.
Second, I really miss having colored text. A color tag would be most welcome. I frequent a C++ messageboard (run by a teenaged webmaster who wrote the board software himself in a month) which has far greater formatting capabilities. He added the ability to use arbitrary RGB colors, like this:
[color:ff00ff]Purple Text
Which opened the door for syntax highlighting scripts. Here some of my post on that board... notice how the code is highlighted and fits seamlessly within the text, without any obtrusive markings around it:

I've already contacted the Webmaster of the board using UBB (mentioned above), and offered to add the code he needs to do this. I'm posting here because (a) he might be (understandably) nervous about altering the software himself, because it would make updating to a new version of UBB more difficult, and (b) because I think these are features which should be addressed in UBB itself.
Cheers,
Eric
