Then every single hit from a spider hits the board rather than the accelerator. Your host won't appreciate it.

My suggestion would be to nuke your hacks, upgrade to 6.6, and re-apply the hack first. smile

On micah's addon, you can have it hit either and it doesn't cause much of a differance... I think i saw a small spike in bandwidth, but not much was even noticible...

actually, about that I believe micah's addon is causing more trouble than Charles's one, because it accesses the special PHP script for every action.. if Google is crawling the page there is a problem with turning cache off, so if micah's one doesn't cause this problem it means google isn't crawling your site smile

Why would you want to turn the cache off?

nevermind... I understand now - I believe the one micah does works with both the .cgi and .php pages... all it does it trick the url into reading them as .html pages smile

well, I' ve browsed forums with IE 5.5 yesterday on a different computer and IE gave me error (host not found) with the php file, I've changed url manually to ultimatebb.cgi and it worked. Also tried with opera and worked again. Now I'm on my own computer with IE 6.0 and everything is fine... IE is a strange product

Sorry to be a complete dummy. I'm new to the whole UBB hacking scene. Why are the pages output by UBB.Classic 6.6.0 not spider-friendly? I honestly don't know. I gotta learn somewhere.. smile

From what I've heard, spiders can't understand the ;, so it will stop spidering once the link has one of them. That's why this hacks changes it all to /s

Well, I have the accelerator working and this hack installed and so far there are no issues at all. I'm still on 6.4 and *planning* an upgrade but time is so short these days that it's tough to dedicate time to it. Thanks for a great hack.

I've seen an interesting issue, but i'm not too sure where it's from... When not logged in when i click on a private forum (such as developers discussion) it tells me that i need to login, when logging in it redirects me to the page saying i'm not logged in but it sais "hello gizzy" lol...

Is it possible that this hack and IIS (IIS 6.0 in this case) aren't happy playing together? On my project server I have UBB 6.6 running just fine until I add this hack. When I try to access a forum or a recent thread from the summary page I get an plain white page with this text on the first line;

No input file specified.

The URL that shows up in the address bar is;

http://192.168.0.228/noncgi/ultimatebb.php/ubb/forum/f/9

Apparently my server doesn't like the change in the address (the /'s). I'll be uploading this code to a FreeBSD server to upgrade Netwerkin.com to 6.6 and if the problem is Windows IIS 6.0 then it just may work on Apache. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Removing the hack from the summary makes the board run fine again.

Bleh. It should work, in theory, in CGI mode... Then again, I've only tested with IIS 5. frown

I'm not going to sweat it right now, I'm sure it'll be fine when I upload it to the FreeBSD box.

Hi,

Fist of all...great idea. But having a serious issue.

Our board is on IIS, and after having installed the hack. Blank pages evrywhere.

Is it obligatory to have PHP installed ?

Sorry for my english. Doing my best.

Thanks.

Alright, so can anyone tell me if I have the hack working?

http://www.solo2.org

I know I have PHP working, and I think I got all the hack files uploaded, but I don't see any noticeable change in the linking structure of the pages, should there be something I can see? I cleared my cache once I uploaded, do I need to rebuilt the forums?

Is there any particular page I should submit to the spiders, or just let them crawl from the links on my main site?

Thanks for the great work

alright, it helps if I upload the files to the correct place doesn't it?

The other question still stands, should I link to anything different for the spiders to go through the forums? or will linking to ultimatebb.cgi still get them in?

well, I started having a few problems, so I took the modified code out.

The links were coming up correctly (formatting) but when you went to the pages BLAHBLAH/f/1/ the pages ended up just being blank....

I may mess around with it again tonight when the users aren't all on there trying to post.

Test site, test schmite.... laugh

Any thoughts on how to get it into CGI mode? I have it running in Isapi mode, and am getting the blank pages effect.

edit: I am just a problem solving fool today.

I got PHP working in IIS under CGI

ran into this isse
Quote

A tip for Windows-users

Just a tip for you so do not do the same mistake as I did:
I just found out that PHP first seem to look in the php-directory for php.ini, and if that file does not exist, it looks in the Windows directory.
I renamed the file php.ini-dist to php.ini and copied it to my Windows directory, and then I modified the infamous "cgi.force_redirect = 0" in the php.ini file located in the Windows directory, to make it work. But it did not because it reads from the "original" php.ini - So when I deleted this php.ini things started working again
but now I am getting the following error when I try to access a forum page.

http://www.solo2.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/forum/f/1

No input file specified.

Thoughts?

I've never seen that before. It's almost like PHP doesn't understand that it needs to run the script, not the path... I'm going to have to dig up my IIS server and figure out what's different...

and when trying to go to
http://www.solo2.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=12

PHP Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in e:siteschrissolo2-orgubbultimatebb.php on line 847 PHP Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in e:siteschrissolo2-orgubbultimatebb.php on line 852

What would be the downfall of having PHP turned off while running this mod? Would the spiders really increase the load that much?

I can seem to get it to work without the accelerator turned on without any problems. I guess I try that for a few days, and see how the server handles the load.

By the way, thank you for all of your help, this mod should come in extremely handy!!!

Those errors are just warnings. They shouldn't impact anything...

If you run the mod without the accelerator, then every single request hits the scripts, which WILL cause a slowdown when spiders are crawling.

The errors are the only thing that show up on the page, that's the problem smile The page is blank until I turn on all error reporting, and then I get the errors above.

It's running iis6 on win2k3, w/ the latest download of php from php.net.

I'll see how effective the spiders are, and hopefully figure out a way to get the PHP accelerator w/ the spider hack working properly. Without the spider hack the accelerator works fine...

Med, I am getting the blank pages as well. I turned of PHP, not the best solution, but it's working for me for now.

Oh, and it's worth $50 of my time to work on this free script that capps put out, because it's like a puzzle, I'd rather play with the puzzle putting it together than to get one put together right out of the box laugh

If you need access to an IIS 6 server I can probably have one ready this weekend that you can remote desktop to.
