How's this for ridiculous. The biggest database vendor in the world using a discussion board that doesn't have a database back-end. Hah!

Post a suggestion on their board to use wwwthreads

But if you had a routine to convert their old posts, you would have a much better chance!!!!

I know there has to be a routine even though it's not been mentioned on this Support Forum, because the forum at http://www.onlinekosten.de (in German) used to be UBB but they switched to WWWThreads because of the server load, it's a pretty busy forum. I know they switched in a matter of hours, with all users and posts converted.
[]/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/] It's a miracle []/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/] - since they did it, there has to be a routine! How else could they have converted thousands of users and tens of thousands of posts?

It's not very difficult so long as you know the configuration of both types of files.

If this is really something which people want, I'd be prepared to code it up... (I still own an unused copy of Ultimate Bulletin Board which I had hacked around at some point and decided the code was far too messy and poorly written to be updated further).

But I thought somebody else was already doing this?

Hi out there,

if someone managed to convert a UBB, does anybody out here know if there may also be a conversion routine for an UltraBoard? I run one and would go to w3t if I knew I could convert to it.

Maybe UBB and UltraBoard are using equivalent data storage formats - tha of course would also solve the problem! If anybody knows something about it, I'd be very happy to know!

Cheers

Frodo

True, but since wwwthreads runs on oracle, they wouldn't need to run mySQL, now would they? []/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/]

To be honest, my databases haven't yet been corrupted. []/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/] I know that's not true of everyone here, but I don't know of anything in wwwthreads that would cause database corruption. As far as the RDBMS itself, is one more 'stable' than the other? Possibly... but who knows...? And the more important question... how many of us have a choice of which database we can use? Most of us are lucky if our hosting companies offer mysql or msql... the only people who are going to be able to run Oracle, MS SQL, or others are people running their own web-servers, corporations, etc...

I've been begging for a conversion routine for UBB--->W3T

I currently have about 2k members and over 100k posts on my UBB. We get about 1500-2k posts/day and the server load is incredible at times.

I thought Rick had someone working on this, but I haven't heard anything about it at all.
