Okay, I'm at a complete loss as to how to first obtain the files I need, and then how to go about installing them on my server.
I have a webhosted dedicated server running Red Hat Linux 5.2, Apache Web Server 1.3.20, MySQL 3.23.32 and PHP 4.06.
I'd love to upgrade to Red Hat Linux 7.2, Apache Web Server 1.3.24, MySQL 3.23.49a, and PHP 4.1.2 but I'm a complete NuB and I have no idea how to do any of that over a remote connection.
I've always done everything having physical access to a computer running a Windows OS. Doing things through a telnet session to a UNIX server is fairly new to me and I'm not even sure what commands to use.
Compound that with the fact that I can't seem to locate a LINUX distribution of the PHP upgrade.
http://www.php.net states:

We do not distribute UNIX/Linux binaries. Most Linux distributions come with PHP these days, so if you do not want to compile your own, go to your distribution's download site.
I have no clue how to compile my own version, and Red Hat only has a 4.06 distribution for PHP.
*sigh*
I really wish I knew more about UNIX servers. Should have gone with the Windows hosting. []/forum/images/icons/wink.gif[/]
