Hello again, I have another question, I need to prevent anon's from posting on my board. I did search the the archives

This is what Scream posted:

Disabling the post ability of anonymous users is done with the Groups feature. You would edit a board's write groups, and remove the checkbox from the Guest group.

Titles are stored in the filters directory in a file called usertitles.

The default for the preview screen is set in w3tvars.pm, the $config{'Preview'} variable.

I found the usertitles file, but what ever program that I need to edit that file I don' t have it on my machine. So I wanted to know is there a way that in the Admin section under the Group Managment option, can I make the guest group show up in the drop down list. Right now the only group that will show up in the drop down list is Users, and I want to edit the guest group so I can preven anon's from posting. Thanks

You can use notepad, or any simple text editor to edit the files.

I would suggest that you use Wordpad (in Windows) since Notepad sometimes does not translate the carriage return characters correctly sometimes and it all looks as if it is in one line.

Ok thanks, wordpad opened the file nicely, however I don't see how this file relates to me blocking anonymous users. This is what is in my file

Beverly,

In your file (with the titles) you need to edit the first line also to look like:

0 Member

instead of

Member.

As far as anonymous users are concerned. The Groups feature correctly shows only Users. The Guests group is incorporated in the program.

If you wish the guests not to be able to post in your forum or in an individual board you do the following:

Click the Admin Menu
Under Forum Management Click "Edit or Delete a Forum"
Select your forum from the dropdown combo box and click "Change"
At the bottom of the screen you have different options. For the Guests group, click the radio button under the "Read" column.
Click Submit.

Repeat the process for all the boards you need to change.

This will allow guests to read the board but not post. You can also choose the "No Access" setting which makes that board invisible to guests.

Warm regards

Nikos

I still don't think I've ever read the "official" instructions yet.
