do most people on a dedicated server turn this ON or off?
wouldn't having it on help speed things up?
thoughts/ideas?

I'm on a dedicated server.... and leave it off. But I'm not really sure if this will fly or not.  I'll be waiting on the correct answer too.

Persistant connections is ok for smaller sites and may increase the speed by a little, but for larger sites you will start getting "Too many connections (from same client)" errors when the server can't clear old connections fast enough. This is especially true if you use mysql/php on your main site. My current setting and opinion is turn it off.
