Why do all my "Categories" bound to each other? I want a clean seperation between categories how do I rid myself of this pesky little area?

Sorry but I don't understand your question very well, if you want to remove it:

Open ubbthreads.tmpl
FIND AND DELETE:
<tr>
<td colspan="5" class="cleartable"><img src="{$config['images']}/blank.gif" width="1" height="1" alt="*" /></td>
</tr>

This works, I tested it.

Yup, that's exactly it. I removed it on my site as well.

Well sort of.. I want the space but no connecting lines between
allowing my background to flow between categories...

The two are on a different "layer" so I'm not sure it's gonna work, but you could try to remove the background color in the cleartable class of your style sheet. If that doesn't work you could use the same background graphic that your page uses. The two will not be aligned though.

Isn't it possible to just close the table and open a new one for each category?

That particular table cell is in the catagory loop section of the ubbthreads.tmpl file (if memory serves me correctly). You either modify the way it is displayed via the cleartable CSS class, or you edit that table cell and row out of the catagory loop (that's what I did).

Yeah, rick put it all inside one table so that the columns would finally line up. Remember how all the columns used to be different from category to category.

You'd need to close and reopen at the end of each category.

The thing you ask is not as easy as it seems because that is only a cell not a table itself if I'm right.

Dalantech, I tested it and the first method don't work, the second works sure but the result depend on the background image you're using.

Ok Oceanwest, I found the easy way to do what you ask:

Go in your CSS and delete background-color lines from:
.tablesurround
.tableborders
.cleartable

This works, I tested it !

Here a shot:

I think it's easier just to delete the table row

or give it a new class in the template.... without a backgroun. Then Rutto's method would work... without messnig up the other tables.
