[:"pink"]The feature I want most in UBB.threads 6.4 is a UBB.classic style poll feature. Rick, could you please take it into consideration? [/]

I think I know who "unknown" is.... Pink?

I agree... the Classic Poll feature is pretty cool.

[:"pink"] Other features that I want in the future:
  • Calendar (including the display of birthdays at the bottom of the main index)
  • User-defined time format
  • Display of users browsing the whole board on the main index, and the display of users browsing a forum in the display of a forum
  • Sub-Forums
  • Font and underlines UBBcodes
  • Selectable avatars
  • Hybrid Display (remember my graphical representation of it?)

Highlight them. Or use Frosted, which pink letters appear black for some reason.

Or is this just a joke?

Also, I would like a feature where you can mark all read automatically after a certain time defined by a user.

hehe

It is tough to read on the default sheet here.

There's a bug in the frosted stylesheet that omegatron found.... it causes the font colors to get overridden.

What I would like to see in the 7 version (not 6.4) is pure normalization in the database. With the upcoming release of MySql 4.0 and the ability to use nested queries, this would allow greater flexibility in querying the data. In version 8 we can have stored procedures - at that time 4.1 would be out.

Ability for users to have the date displayed in their local format rather than that of the board i.e. on here to display 16/03/03 rather than 03/16/03.

Also, in the user list, add a homepage icon to replace the full display of the URL (this would be ideal for long URLs)

Did you see I posted a mod to do that? Or are you requesting it as a feature because it's a cool mod.

Oh yes! Let's have some new features the users really notice (you know most of the changes in the last updates were almost invisible).

My feature wish list (priority in this order):

1) Sub-Forums
2) Calendar
3) Sub-Forums
4) Calendar

More

  • Make the lock (closed) icon shown next to the thread icon (instead of overwriting the thread icon)
  • Add a moved topic icon (shown next to the thread icon)
  • Add A poll icon next to the thread icon to indicate a poll (if the UBB.classic poll feature gets added)
  • Add a little flame icon next to the thread icon to indicate if the thread has over X replies
  • Show what the closed, sticky, moved, poll, and flame icons mean in the legend (Currently the legend only shows the colors for new posts and old posts)
  • Add the ability to search the user list
  • Show when and where a user was last seen (when viewing thier profile)
  • Show the date a user registered and thier location at the bottom of thier post (instead of the left side)
  • Signature preview

Sub-forums have come up alot. Anyone care to elaborate in how they envision these working? I've got a few ideas in my head but not sure what everyone else is thinking. Is this basically a forum on the main page that when clicked on opens up several more forums, like going to another main index screen that only contains forums within that forum?

No idea when this will get in, but it's been asked for enough I think it needs to be discussed in how these will actually work.

I think I've seen this at various sites.

On the postlist screen, the regular forum is there, but up top there's like a small category of additional forums to click down into for subforums.

example:
http://www.sitepointforums.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=90

I think if you're logged in, there's quite a few threads under that one anchored thread at the trop of that forum. But you can see the 2 forums above that.

On the forumsummary (ubbthreads.php) page, the forum is there with its description and below the description is links to subforums.

I don't know if I'd ever use it, but interesting anyways

Like Allen already pointed out, the top level forum should contain subforums, but also all postings of all its subforums.

So if you open the postlist for forum1 you will get links to the subforums forum1.1, forum1.2 and already see all posts of forum1, forum1.1, forum1.2.

A click onto subforum forum1.1 then displays just a subset (like a filter) of its parent forum1 posts.

Oooooh

Check out Here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php?

Scroll down to where it says "vBulletin Code Hacks @ vBulletin.org". It's got the arrow icon next to it.

Clicking it redirects you to a URL. That's a really cool way to put other elements of your site... into the forum listing. Like a chat room photo gallery etc... Currently I use HTML in forum descriptions and give the forum a "space" as the name to get that desired effect.

I like that.

Ok, I think I can do this. Will probably start off with limited nesting. Meaning you will only be able to make subforums one level deep. To nest further than that will require alot more complexity and will probably have to wait until a later date.

just to stray from the current discussion and to mention a new feature.. almost EVERYONE on my site has been asking for this. They want the feature that vbulletin has where when you reply to a thread, the post icon has a "dot" or other indicator. I too find this would be very useful as on a forum with 1000-2000 new posts per day, sometimes it is nice to just quickly glance for those icons knowing which threads to pop into.

At least maybe have this as an option.. I dunno. There may already be a hack for this, I haven't been keeping up on those. But it would be great to see as that has been the biggest suggestion by everyone that I've heard

Oh so it keeps track if you've participated in the thread?

Gardener's hack (which listed all the participants) could probably be adapted to keep track of this.

Josh - not sure what you are wearing in the photo, but it always looks like the top of a space suit - put a helmet on, and you wouldn't look out of place at Cape Canaveral

I love Rollar Coasters.

That one in California launches you from the water, zero to 60 in a few seconds. Then the loop de loop is mickey's head.

OK - Here's me on a real rollar coaster - Lochness Monster, Williamsburg VA

I think that one was actually broke. It was probably just sitting on the repair track when all the rollercoasterphobics took the opportunity for a picture to make it look like they were on one that was actually going somewhere!

One feature I think would be neat would be custom multi-forums.

A custom multi-forum would be something where a user make their own "forum", except that it's really a catch-all board for several forums. IE the user makes "Custom Board 1" which when entered contains all the posts of forums number 5, 14, 23, etc. Would be handy in systems that have a large number of forums to peruse. Also, the custom forums could be set to contain something different that specific forums -- IE threads posted today, threads with your name in it, threads with specific search terms in it, however I realise that might make the processing a little heavy.

I'm considering writing a mod for it, but in my first attempt I encountered trouble with that danged Board= variable in the URL, but now that 6.3 is getting rid of it, I may write the mod when it goes out of beta.

Here is a screenshot from one of the vb forums I use... notice the dot that is placed on top of an image... this is by far the most handy feature I've seen from vbulletin, although they do use two icon columns... but you will see what I mean by you can just glance quickly and see what threads you've replied to

Example of forum

Also, could you please add page numbers to search results (currently there is only previous and next buttons to navigate the search results). Also could you add the pagination technique to the user list (i.e. 1 2 3 4 5 ... 28 29 30)
