Hi, I'm looking for a host with unlimited webspace. We are using ubb threads as an online filing cabinet among other things and need unlimited space due to the large number of files we will be uploading as attatchments. I haven't seen anyone(besides our current host who apparently is now under investigation by the Florida Attorney General) that offers anything above 10 gig and that was for $299 a month. All we really need is alot of space, a good amount of bandwidth, good uptime, and at least existant support.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

For under $299 you could have your own dedicated server with a 40 GB hard drive at Rackspace with 30 GB of bandwidth/month.

Just to clear things up from a web hosts perspective. There is no such thing as "unlimited" in the hosting industry. You cannot have a hard drive that is infinite in size. Just as you can't have unlimited bandwidth because if you are hooked up on a 100mbit line, you can only have as much bandwidth as that can push. Anyone offering you unlimited services is lying. Read the fine print I know CIhost is good for this, they offer you unlimited bandwidth. But, read the fine print, and after 20 GB/month you will be put under watch, and most likely charged or your service terminated, etc... So just be wary of hosts who offer unlimited plans. They are overselling, crowding the servers, and offering all of this space knowing that most of their customers won't use it. But as soon as someone does, they usually have to suspend the account. But if you have some more specific space/transfer requirements, I can help point you in the right direction

Hi, A basic list of what we need is: 5-10 Gig of storage space(the upper end of that would be best) 50-100GB of bandwidth(We've only used about 1 Gig so far this month but the UBB threads system isn't really online yet. Just us admins still working on structure and the main site.) PHP 4 support mySQL database 200 email addresses *nix host

To be honest you would be better off with your own server, with that amount of bandwidth.
There are very few hosts that will give you up to 100gb per month for traffic.
Of course with your own server you can install what you like as well.

Ian is correct. You will not find a shared host (at least a quality one) that offers those sort of storage and bandwidth requirements. It isn't even much of a space and bandwidth concern as much as when you have a site that big and popular, using message boards and such are extremely taxing on the server resources. So even if you did find a shared host that offered this, your site would perform very poorly.
The minimum you are looking for to get something in that range is at least a semi-dedicated server. But dedicated servers can be had for as low as about 99/month. But, if you do not know a lot about server management you may find yourself in a tough position when something goes wrong since you are "in charge".
With dedicated servers there are unmanaged and managed servers. Unmanaged cost less, but again, you are in complete control and responsible for everything (or most things) on the server. A managed solution, while costing a bit more, will usually require less work from you. Meaning your provider will install the OS, control panels, update software as needed, and fix problems if they arise, so essentially all you need to do is what you have always been doing on a shared host.
So depending on your experience and how comfortable you are with managing a server you are looking at anywhere from about 100-400/month. And these would be more than enough as far as storage and bandwidth is concerned.

Can you tell me what sites have these rates? []Jeremy said:

Unfortunately I have no prior experience with server management. My experience has been with PCs...Windows PCs, so I'm not sure how that will transfer. I was planning on building a cheap little practice server to practice with but the money for that is still a couple of months out so I haven't even started delving into documentation on managing a web server and I want to move my site ASAP. There are several cheap hosts out there preparing to take the flow of featureprice sites. It seems that this is the last month for featureprice. At least that is what I have been able to pick up through the grape vine. And with my corrispondance with some of these other sites.
I downloaded a backup of all my files last night so I don't have to worry about losing my files but we can't afford to have our main site down. The worst part of it is that the whois info for our domain says: belongs to a featureprice customer. Hopefully I will be able to get that transfered without too much pain. We'll see.
If I have to we can go dedicated but with the budget we have to work with I would have to manage it. Normally I crave all the control I can get but I don't really have the resources to learn all that administration.

I know Server Beach ( http://www.serverbeach.com ) has dedicated servers for $99/mo. You have to know what you are doing... and support (beyond if it's broke) is additional costs. You can pre-purchase x number of support tickets. I don't know much about it. They consider it more of a "personal dedicated server". All equipment is off the shelf... that keeps their support down. It was founded by the guy who founded Rackspace.com They won't take adult content... so while they offer 400 GB bandwidth... the no adult sites = we dont' really want anyone using that much bandwidth.

If you want something managed slightly while not costing a complete fortune, I would have to recomend www.fastservers.netThe thing is, if you need to manage a lot of it yourself, you need a control panel, which lets you admin the server from a web browser and GUI anywhere you are. They use WHM/cPanel. ANyway, their base server with cpanel is 150/month, but adding the control panel will put you at about 180/month. But, having worked with them and owning many servers with them I can say if you do need help or have questions they are amazing. There is ALWAYS someone that answers the phone, they repsond to support tickets in less than 10 minutes every time I've had questions, and heck, even on Christmas day I had a problem and they were right there to help. So, the little extra you pay may be worth the piece of mind knowing your site will be in good hands. If you are a bit tighter on a budget, you may want to look at www.rackshack.net. Plans starting from 109/month.. but mind you, it will be probably a slower server and from what I've heard the support is good when it is good, and really bad when it is bad. Another one people use is www.nocster.com They call these managed, but haven't heard anything about how good or bad this really is. I have heard their network will have some downtime, and for their plans you get very low end servers. But for a cheap price. There are a lot out there, but as always, "you get what you pay for" really does apply. If you are running a very busy threads site, a celeron 1ghz server with 256mb of ram for 99 bucks a month probably isn't going to be your best bet since with dynamic sites you really need quite a bit of CPU and RAM to have it run effectively.

Hi, Thanks for the responses. Our site and email went down at about noon today so it was crunch time. Couldn't even connect via ftp. We went with with a reseller plan through TekAdvantage. 3GB storage, 60 GB bandwidth, $50/month for right now with the option to upgrade monthly. It will do for right now. They use cPanel/WHM for their control panels. Haven't even started uploading the baords. Waiting for the DNS transfer to go through. Featureprice's helpdesk came up for about an hour this afternoon so I was able to get in and get the contact info for our domain transfered to our company's name, so that headache is out of the way. Who nows how much business we lost today. The emails aren't even bouncing back, they just seem to be disappearing. Trying to connect to the email server returns a no socket error. It is just a waiting game now. Hopefully the registrar isn't playing games(I've they are dening recievale of request for transfer).
Yeah, you do get what you pay for. But, Featureprice had such good reviews when I did my research that I thought it was legit.
Thanks again.

I had an internet based shopping mall for a couple of years, and the web consultants I was using out of Canada had registered the domain and listed themselves as all the contacts. When we tried to transfer, we couldn't get them to approve the transfer. The domain was hostage for like a month. Finally had to get my lawer to "get legal" and write a letter ($200 cha ching). Then the transfer went through.
