I know about IIP and have it installed...but it is not quite as far along in terms of functionality and ability to add items on as PHP-Nuke.

Anyone done this?

Yes, there are a lot of "addons" that are not available. But you can bet, that they will be.

I'm an ex phpnuker and ex postnuker ex phpwebsite! (Ever heard of SuperBB? SuperBB Yup, that's me. I was using phpnuke, then postnuke, and wanted to integrate a forum called WebBBS. I was successful, but I needed a php script to do it better, so I took the Cyboards, a very viable script and integrated it to nuke, then I was going to get some help and we started the SuperBB project. It didn't get far. Too many chiefs and not enough indians, pardon the pun, at postnuke. Want to write mods for the nukes? Hope you got time to make a million changes to your scripts. Toooo much work to keep your script working with their upgrades that are supposed to be better. Don't get me wrong, they are great scripts, but if you want a good forum for your site, go with UBBThreads and write your mods or addons (or get them here, or hire someone for UBBThreads. It will make upgrading a LOT easier!!!)

Pick up a book on php, a recomendation would be PHP and MYSQL Development, and Sams Teach Yourself PHP in 24 Hours. Of course, it takes trial and error, but you can write your own modules if you really want to take the time. Or, you can come here and learn, or even more hire someone.

Obviously, this is only my humble opinion. They were good scripts when there was good direction. I tried it, scripted with it, had a bad experience with it, got fed up with it. I wish you good luck with the nukes.

When I used to run postnuke, I switched off registration in nuke, and incorporated the same header and footer into it from threads. Most didn't know the diff.

Well, and the reason I was looking to do this was some of the "easy" features that Nuke has with it, in terms of add-ons.

But of course I would not drop UBB.Threads - been a user for years (still have those early versions around somewhere).

Using IIP and just hacking around on it. I liked the "Admin Approval" area of Nuke, so I coded the same thing in the menupal.php for myself...and voila...

Working on integrating NuCalendar into Threads. I like the UBB.Threads Calendar add-on, but some of the NuCalendar features are nice (recurring info, etc...). Should not be too hard...3 tables and a few scripts, and bada bing.

If you code any pal boxes that might prove useful to others here - you are welcome to post them.

The only thing I have done thus far is code a quick one...

I used one of the custom boxes to make a "Private Menu" - so that only members of a particular group could even see the menu.

I have a few pages linked thus far, each page uses the same "group check" to make sure that browsers are not directly using the URL.

Not sure that its useful to anyone, but was easy and if wanted...I would gladly share.

I did it for a .threads 5.5 and an older version of PHPNuke.

Then they changed the API for Nuke and I found that I couldn't make it work. The largest part of that was lack of patience. As I recall Nuke has it's database table names laid out in a config file. Change the user's tables it uses to .threads tables, change it's login and register links to .threads's links. Add what ever fields that .threads doesn't have and Nuke needs to the .threads user table. Then make nuke set .threads cookies and .threads set nuke cookies so people can hit your site from either entrance.

That's the very simplified version but doing it was a different, harder story. Nuke's group settings was what was tripping me. I haven't touched it since .threads was in 5.5 so that's a while now. The site I was working on closed and I haven't even got the files anymore.

Picture perfect penmanship here.

Looking at both systems, I would say no...not an EASY way.

It could of course be done, but there are so many things to change on either the Nuke side or the Threads side, I would not want to even try and tackle it.

I ran phpnuke for a while, being open source I was hacked on a regular basis. It's like every version change would only last about a month before it was breached and for some reason I was a target.

Must have been that 5150 icon (just insane!).

One thing that has come up for me in the past is that it is not usually a good thing to incorporate open source with something you pay for AND gets updated on a regular basis.

PHPBB and VBulletin are easier to incorporate into portals such as nuke because they are rarely (comparitively) updated as often and as much as Threads.

IIP is the best solution...you can take almost any module from Nuke and IP it with a few flips of the switch and some minor changes.

Good point Medar, I did that with a nuke mini mp3 player block and it integrated nicely into a sidepal box.
