actually, it seems it has to do with the interface routine.

instead of
libmysqlclient.so.10
or how I know exactly which version runs with my old redhat (how do I find out the redhat version? I have aprox 7.2) and which one is actually for the version 4 mysql.
I can keep trying of course, trying not to kill the server. Or do a test install of redhat on my home computer, but that is a lot of extra work!
