What is it?: It's a mod that adds a graphic border to all the tables in UBB 6.2.x to 6.3.x.

Is there a demo?: My Dev Site

What files are modified?: tbopen.tmpl, tbclose.tmpl, and several style sheets.

Who gets the props?: JustDave for making this mod possible by coming up with, and selling Info Pop on, the concept of table wrappers (and for making me curious enough to figure out how to modify them). JoshPet for commisioning me to make this set for one of his clients.

Instructions: Back up your files first!

1) Copy the graphics to a directory on your server.

2) Copy the tbopen.tmpl and tbclose.tmpl files (included in the zip file) to your templates/default directory.

3) Add the CSS properties in the text files (included in the zip file) to your own style sheets. I've included the neccessary classes for Black and Blue, Frosted, Green Day (large and small), Info Pop, Style sheet 2 and 4, and The Blues (large and small).

4) Currently the new CSS classes look for graphics at http://www.yourdomain.com/your_directory so you'll have to change the domain name to your web site, and the directory to the one you used in step 1, in every style sheet that this mod changes.

Enjoy

Thanks for this, but I'm having a little problem with the viewing of the home page. Using IIP 5.3.1. At 800x600 and 1024x768 I have to scroll left to right to view the entire page. Any idea why this is? The tables don't expand or collapse as if there is a fixed width assigned, but I can't find any large numbers. http://www.fish-tails.net

It seems computer specific DLT. I know running IE and Win XP my site looks fine. When I installed Linux and which came with Mozilla 1.2 everything looked great. Now I upgraded to 1.4 and the text is so small. I have to increase text size to 120% to view normal. So this may be one of those things just like this. It could be specific to his setup as his site views fine also. I am on linux now and it views fine on XP as well using IE and Mozilla.

Weird. I've got win98 and ie5 on my laptop 800x600, and xp home and ie6 on my desktop 1024x768 and both are viewing weird. The only page with this problem is the index iip5.3.1 . I may have to go back to the original tbopen and tbclose templates until I get this figured out. Thanks.

Try taking out all the boxes of IIP and see if it works. Then start adding them one at a time and you will see the offending one. I had a similar issue with the table wrappers which I later on took out because my members were complaining. My problem was starting when I was including a logo inside the pal box.

I'll give that a go. Thanks.

Edit I put the original tbopen and tblose templates back in and guess what I got. Some of the pal boxes still have the thinset wrappers and some do not. Check it out. I better take a look at the iip code and see if there's something there. I'll also try your idea if I don't see anything that jumps out at me.

Yup! Hot topic and current threads. But guess what, if you put the shoutbox in the center column then it goes haywire again, but put it in the third column and it looks fine. Same with a couple of the custom pal. Like my tidesticker. If I put it in the 1st column it the page renders properly. If I put it in the third column it goes nuts again. The center column also has a problem when I try to add a webring navbar set in a custompal box. I'll have to put it in the footer I guess.

I find that thetable wrappers take care of any failings in the html coding of the IIP Pals.

Yup, the Pal baxes get a little out of hand sometimes. Odd, cause it seems to be very intermitten. Also it can't be the table wrapper templates because they are the same for every Pal box.

Okay, ya gotta keep this as simple as possible for us knuckle-heads and I admit that I am one.

I'ved edited the css.txt files that you included...but not sure now what to do with them? I've uploaded them to the stylesheets directory...but it sounds like I'm suppose to copy the text from the files and include them into other files....?

Sorry for my ignorance with this coding schtuff...I know you guys try to make it as simple as possible for the rest of us...but I'm a lil slower than most.

Also, I see in your 'tbclose' file that it points to your site as well.

<? //UBBTREMARK
$tbclose = <<<UBBTPRINT

</table>
</td>
<td class="right"><img border="0" alt="*" src="http://www.dalantech.com/images/wrapset1/spacer.gif" width="10" height="10" /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="blc"><img border="0" alt="*" src="http://www.dalantech.com/images/wrapset1/spacer.gif" width="10" height="10" /></td>
<td class="botleft"><img border="0" alt="*" src="http://www.dalantech.com/images/wrapset1/spacer.gif" width="70" height="10" /></td>
<td class="bot"></td>
<td class="botright"><img border="0" alt="*" src="http://www.dalantech.com/images/wrapset1/spacer.gif" width="70" height="10" /></td>
<td class="brc"><img border="0" alt="*" src="http://www.dalantech.com/images/wrapset1/spacer.gif" width="10" height="10" /></td>
</tr>
</table>

UBBTPRINT;
/* UBBTREMARK */ ?>

Do we need to edit this file? As well as 'tbopen' as it too points to your site.

All css documents go into your stylesheet directory. They have the extention .css

Your tbopen and tbclose documents go into your templates directory and you need to edit the paths there to your own pointing to where you placed the spacer.gif

I'm confused on this one as they are all .txt files. Should I rename them?

There is no 'spacer.gif' file. There is a 'space.gif' file.

Okay I just downloaded the hack. Most of us have our own versions. Dalantech as you see even calls it spacer.gif as well. In his distro he called it space.gif. Does not matter really set the path to where you placed that on the server in tbopen and tbclose

Now with each stylesheet they need to be renamed to an extention of css CORRECT. Do not forget in side as the instructions state to set the paths to the images you uploaded for each stylesheet.

Tablewrapper's are pretty easy as far as a mod to install. It is basically set the path and go.

If you are going to allow a combination of stylesheets some with wrappers and some without you might want to install the CSS Specific Wrapper hack as Dalantech's set here assumes all your stylesheet's have wrappers. What is going to happen is if you select a style that does not have wrapper assigned since you modified your base tbopen tbclose you will have ten little clear boxes on all your table corner etc.

If you use CSS Specific Wrapper hack in conjunction with this hack you leave a unmodified tbopen and tbclose on your server and then the modified ones you made become tbopen-stylename.tmpl tbclose-stylename.tmpl

After you get tablewrappers installed and if what I wrote above makes any sense let me know.

Chuck, this worries me a bit....wondering if things will look too fouled up.

Is it easy to switch back to my old setup if this turns into too much work to fix and look right?

Sorry it's taken me so long to get to your question -I've been swamped at work lately.

As per the instructions I've included some classes that you have to add to your style sheets, plus as Chuck said you have to edit the path to your images in the tbopen.tmpl and tbclose.tmpl files. I'll change the mod later to remove my domain name from the templates.

Sorry, as I've mentioned...I'm a knuckle-head....and I'm still lost on #3.

" 3) Add the CSS properties in the text files (included in the zip file) to your own style sheets. I've included the neccessary classes for Black and Blue, Frosted, Green Day (large and small), Info Pop, Style sheet 2 and 4, and The Blues (large and small). "

I've never worked with css files before...so, what exactly am I suppose to do with each of the .txt files you've included in your attachment? I have already edited them to point to the directory in which I stored the images in...but don't know what I'm to do with the .txt files beyond that. Sounds like I'm suppose to copy and paste the text inside of them into other .css files... Can you break this one down Barney style for me so I don't foul things up...?

Remember, many of us are rookies at this schtuff...except I'm a little more behind the power curve.

Go into your admin section and hit edit stylesheets

Go to the first one say blues.css and edit it

Take the code in DALANTECH'S blue.txt and copy and paste it into the css making sure to edit the paths. and then save it

I have attached one of my stylesheets to show you how it is suppose to be. Now mine are a little different but not much.

Hahahaa...guess you've not been following my lack of understanding this schtuff.

I only made one change to a stylesheet. I didn't do it for all of them as of yet as I wanted to understand what you were refering to. Yes, I do see the boxes on the corners and I would like to get rid of them.

How can I rid of the boxes....? And you'll need to break it down Barney style for me as I'm slow....and I'm not too proud to admint it.

Private Message me and I will take a look at where you have gotten too.

I do not think I can be any clearer than telling ya what needs to be done and posting on of my stylesheets to show ya what the end result looks like.

Hi Omegatron,
I have the 10 clear boxes showing like you described. You mentioned installing the CSS Specific Wrapper hack but I'm unable to find it. Do you happend to have a link to it?

Thanks,
Jim

All the CSS specific wrapper hack does is allow you to have the tablewrappers change with each style. If you have stylesheets now that do not have wrappers they will have the empty boxes.

Now if your wrappers have the boxes your problem is that your spacer.gif is not set right in your tbopen and tbclose templates. In Dalantech's mod he you need to edit the path to spacer.gif where you uploaded it to your server in those files. However if you look at the file you uploaded he named it space.gif not spacer.gif so rename it if thats your problem

...and should continue to work for future versions of Threads as long as the tbopen.tmpl and tbclose.tmpl files are used
