hmm... thats a good, and tricky, point. and one with unfortunate consequences, i gather (see: this post).

i do have my persistant connections turned off. and i trimmed a few other aspects a few weeks ago, in an effort to de-lag my boards a bit. and, mebbe with 6.5 around the corner, things'll become even more efficient.

but i'm still wary of everything, and that can't be good. i don't have the guts to optimize the tables or even to a random check for repairs in my server. just a really bad feeling about the assumed results and my inability to address it. downtime aint good for bidniz!

As long as you have persistant connection off - then you're fine. Again the slowness and database corruption may be the result of someone else on the server.

A crappy and or unreliable MySQL server is something you'll have to address with your web host. Data can get corrupted if it can't handle the load.

The lag you've had may not even be your fault. Again, you might be sharing that server with 100+ more sites. Ya just never know.
