Not sure what to post here, so here's the header from the readme.txt file.

UBB Latest Posts SSI
By: Neal Ulen ([email protected]) - GamerForums.Net
v1.0 - 10/16/00

What it does:
Extracts the last X user defined number of posts from the UBB
database and displays them on a page using SSI. There is also
an option to define forum numbers that you don't want scanned
for most recent posts (for example hosted or private forums).

What you need to do:
- Modify the one UBB file as detailed below, and upload.
- Upload the lastposts.cgi file to your UBB CGI dir, and chmod
755 if required (for you Unix boys).
- Embed the SSI in the page where you want the output. The SSI
will look something like:
<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/ubb/lastposts.cgi"-->

What versions are covered:
This hack/mod has been verified to work on UBB v5.46, but since
the mod to the UBB code is tiny, I expect it to work on almost
all versions.

Support:
I will give minimal support. If it's not simple and obvious
what's going wrong, I won't spend any time on it.

Examples:
Unformatted output --> http://www.gamerforums.net/misc_pages/test.shtml
Integrated output --> http://www.gamerforums.net

I meant to mention that this mod/SSI is slightly different from Active Topics in that it extracts the last user defined number of posts from the UBB, while Active Topics displays the last user defined number of topics that have last seen any activity. And the code length is approximately 1/10th that of Active Topics.

Two further points that I've discovered from feedback:

1) It is not compatible with the Thread Counter Hack. The link that is created is a direct link to the thread .html, not a call to the counter.cgi hack program. But, the lastposts.cgi code can easily be modified to work with the Thread Counter Hack, you just need to tweak the lines that build up the URL, all the variables needed should be in the code.

2) If someone deletes their thread, the info does not get deleted from the dailyindex file (UBB thing), so a link may still appear in the output. In order to get this to work properly a mode to postings.cgi (I think) would be needed to delete the thread/form reference from the dailyindex file. This shouldn't be much of a problem on an active board, and people rarely deleted threads anyway.

Okay, I'm done rambling. Thanks for the feedback to those that gave it.

Damn, okay...this is my last post...just trying to give as much info as possible. Addendum to #1 above: It can still be used fine with the Thread Counter Hack, but any clickthroughs from the SSI output page won't be counted...unless you tweak the lastposts.cgi code to be compatible with the Thread Counter Hack.

Allen: Please contact me before uploading this to the actual database so I can send you an updated zip file with this documentation. Thanks!
