Apple introduced it's new iTunes Music Store today, along with new models of their popular iPod and a new version of iTunes designed to work with the new service.

It is being touted as downloads done right, where you can download tracks at 99 cents a pop. Their music catalog launched with ~20,000 songs, and has the backing of major music labels (i.e. it's legal).

Of course, it only works with Macs for the time being. (Yay, I have one! well two actually). Uses AAC format, and is supposed to be easy to use.

I for one can't wait to get home and try it out.

That looks so cool. Just watched Leo show that on Tech TV's Call For Help.

Apple's got all 5 major labels.

The site is flooded now, Here's the deal:

99 cents a song.
$10 for the whole CD!

What a deal. It allows use on 3 macs, unlimited iPods and Unlimited Burns to CD.

That could really make music buying affordable.

I'm excited. I think I might just need to sign up.

I've been playing with it since getting off work. So far I really like the navigation and ease with which you can buy music. And its not $10 per album across the board, there are some albums that cost a little more. Right now is not the best time to be on there as there are routinely some timeouts and connection problems from all the Mac addicts flooding the servers. I was able to successfully download a couple of songs before the servers got too busy.

I also ordered the 15GB iPod. I had been wanting to get one for the last couple of months, but I knew they were close to a new model release. Supposedly it will arrive by this Friday, which I hope is true, so I can play with it over the weekend.

And I'll probably be re-ripping some of my CD's to the AAC format. You can convert existing MP3's to AAC, but the quality isn't going to be quite as good compared to ripping straight from the CD to AAC.

Can you play an AAC CD in a regular CD player? Or only in computers?

You'll be hard pressed to find anything other than Macs with iTunes4 that will play AAC recordings. As usual, Apple being the innovator, they are jumping on this latest Mpeg-4 format, while everyone else will catch up in a few years. But you can still make standard audio CD's from AAC source material, which will play in whatever.

That's what I was wondering. Can I make a standard Audio CD, or am I limited to just playing it on the machine or in an iPod.

I've got a 400 disc CD changer that I'm reluctant to give up, but like to add to when I can. Not to mention CDs for the car.

I lost a zero in my orig post. It's 200,000 songs.

I dl'ed an entire album for $10. Burned it onto a CD, and am listening to it on my bookshelf stereo system. Haven't tried the car stereo yet, or my home CD player either.

I found it to be amazingly easy to use, to browse, search, etc. Sound quality is quite nice too. The files are ripped at 128kbps in the AAC format, but sound very clean.

...and yes, the new 30 gig iPod is at the top of the "oooh, I want that" list.

As tackaberry has demonstrated, yes you can burn the downloaded songs as an audio CD, playable in any CD player.

I'm still working on re-ripping my CD's to AAC before my iPod arrives. I still have my fingers crossed for Friday.

You should, all the Apple stores are having a music event from 6pm til 10pm. Unfortunately for me, Kansas City doesn't have an Apple Store.

Lol...when I bought my 12" PowerBook they had the band Wheatus playing live at the Roosevelt Field store. They couldn't sell me a computer because they were too busy getting ready for the in-store concert.

I had to wait until the store was closing to get one while they were breaking down the stage.

I'm not sure that Glassjaw is my kind of music.

While I didn't by TWO eek iPods, I did get the 15GB model today. Its actually the first firewire device I've used with my Mac and I was simply amazed at the speed with which it synced my 7.5GB of iTunes music. I also like having my address book and calendar synced.

Wow, you're already half filled (or half empty, depending on how you look at it )

I bought the 15's as well. I liked the fact that they were a little lighter and thinner.

I too like the size, but I was actually more impressed with the controls. I like the touch-sensitive controls on the new iPods better than the all-dial controls on the previous models.

Nope... no apple flat panel for me. I've already got a Samsung one that I like. Much cheaper too.

But those apple ones are nice.
