UBB.Developers Forums UBB.classic V5 Mod Questions Last Post By" in *Ultimate.cgi*!

This hack just inserts the username of the member, who made the last post in particular forum..
So, in "Last post" column, Ultimate.cgi will display something like this:
05-01-2000 03:10
by ilya.
Here's the code:
in Ultimate.cgi find
and right after that add

Now, in each $GutsRow add
right after

I hope UBB won't screw up any of the code

Just found a problem with this hack. It displays a username, who posted the last TOPIC, not just message...
I'll fix it today or early tomorrow.

You need to make all the changes in Ultimate.cgi

hrm...okay. So lemme get this straight. The changes need to be made in *BOTH* Ultimate.cgi AND ubb_library?? Or just one? I'm confused, hehe.

The hack worked perfectly! =) Excellent job.

I noticed after I put it in though that since I only have 1 public forum and 7 others, it only shows in the one.

It doesn't matter if anyone knows who last posted anywhere, not objectionable content. Two questions:

#1 and the easy one, how do I make it appear on every board?

#2 would it be possible for you to see if they have logged in and if they have access to the board to display the info only then? I don't think this is really all that feasable since the access requests are done when you attempt to access, and well, checking access ALL the time would be a strain. So, forget it. Unless of course you can think of a way it would work good. =)

So, how can I make it display no matter what? =) thanks!

No. All it does, is displays it in Ultimate.cgi.

Well, now that I actually went back and read the code. No, it won't work as is with the freeware version. The freeware doesn't have an OpenFile sub (of course, I wrote one, but..) and it uses the $RunOnDate.threads version, not forum$x.threads . So additional code would have to be added for that. And of course, I currently don't have the last post by hack in forumdisplay installed either.

This hack works fine with my freewareversion 2000. But should also work with the full version. Beside it should be quicker than the above hacks.

That was mine originally. A lot of people had trouble installing it, but it works fine for me on 5.39b. I'm not sure if anything would need to be altered to work in the later versions. OK, real nice hack! i like it. But if I dont have any post yet in a particular catogorie it just puts by: with no username and looks kinds tacky. Can i get rid of this somehow? Im using 5.43 if it matters.

Actually, the forum$xthread files are created, once you add a new forum.

I test it in 5.39c and it will display in private and public section. However, in 5.43a. It won't display in private section. Is that 5.43a have a tight security to block this? Thanks a million.

Great hack! Works so good that it works TOO well!

I'm running this hack as well as the hack for who posted last in the threads. Works great for normal forums.

But in private forums this hack is preventing the threads from showing who posted last as well. I think it's great that you can't see who posted last in a private forum. But once you've authenticated and entered the private forum, you should be allowed to see who posted last in any given thread.

Anyone seen this? Know of a work around?

Just found another little problem with the hack - can't figure out why it didn't seem to affect anyone else - but it certainly stopped Ultimate.cgi from working til I changed it.

The first call to OpenFile in the hack should have an ampersand in front of it.

I have a question. How does everyone else edit their .cgi and .pl files. I downloaded mine to my computer used wordpad to edit them saved it and the .pl file worked fine but the .cgi file saved to text and won't work if I edit it. So pretty much, how do you guys edit it?

Ok, here is what you do to get it to work for private forums, this is exact instructions just with private forums added:


The original code was written so that it would hide the private forums. Guess the original creator wanted some kind of privacy for the private forums. Heh, i don't so i changed the code and since i see people want to know it as well I'm posting it. Enjoy.
