Jeffery, I'm running Win2k and using Onkel_Tom's instructions, I got it to work. Did you remember to change the following line in admin.cgi: my $size = -s "UltPoll.setup"; and change it to my $size = "2";Then, after running through the setup to create all the files, remember to change it back. If you use the installation instructions in Onkel_Tom's post above, you should get it to work perfect. That's how I got it to work. (PS, the link is kind of hard to see, but click on the word here, below download) Good luck!

Hi,
ich habe mir den Poll eigentlich so vorgestellt, das jeder User ein Poll posten kann !
Ist das nicht möglich ? Oder gibt es so etwas für UBB nicht ?
Liebe Grüße Manuel

The permissions must be seperate configured for the UBB Poll Hack, it's independent from User permissons of the UBB ! A discription is on the html site where you can define the permissions of the Poll Hack. I hate to administ several instances of files for each UBB, therefore I intregrated the relative paths and URL paths to the cpanel2.cgi. Now only one Ultimate.cgi must be used for all Boards. In the original Hack the path to the poll hack is is hardcoded in the Ultimate.cgi ! and will not work for both, my internet version and my internal testserver ! ] http://.../admin.cgi.
Please work step by step all parts of my instruction. I think your problem is what Zackary told you. It worked on Win2k/WinNt4 for me with this instruction ! phenomen, sorry this is a english forum. For german questions please use the german support forum. No, it makes no sense that each person could post a poll. This function is only for admin and defined people. In Ultimate you could only see the last post, if anybody could post a new poll it would be very confusing ! But you can aks your members for new polls in a forum.

Thanks for the reply Onkel_Tom...I understand that the UBB Poll permissions (moderator, administrator) as seperate to those under the UBB control panel thanks to your response. However, I am still not sure what the difference is between Administrator and Moderator under UBB Poll.
You said there was a description on the HTML site? Which site?
Thanks

hi :D,
mfg lupo

Allen,
I purchased my boards over a year ago, and FINALLY this weekend I recieved a large surge of traffic and they are finally starting to take off.
The people are now demanding the ability to post their own polls - in their own thread. I know that you have made this for version 6.X, but I have searched and searched for one that works in UBB 5.45, and have come up empty handed. I know that this has been requested in the past, but I am requesting it again. It is my only hope to keep the traffic that I have recently gained.
My boards are maxed out with hacks, so upgrading is a nearly impossible feat.
Is there any way that you could make one of these for 5.45?
I am eagerly anticipating your reply.
Thanks,
Chad

chad, you are blocking pm's...couldn't reply.
There isn't a thread-integrated poll script for ubb v5, unless somebody writes one... if you are still running 5.45, polls are the least of your worries. I'd recommend upgrading, especially with renewal pricing on sale right now...
If you have added enough modifications that it is "maxed out" then you are good enough at this now to upgrade without much problem, can be done in a few hours.

So what's the most of my worries then? I see no worries at all. I'm sorry, but I have two reasons not to upgrade to V6. 1. The loss of hacks 2. The increased amount of datatraffic. My ISP would kill my board immediately.

Has anyone figured out the problem above yet? I have followed the instructions step by step and cannot open the "admin.cgi" in the browser at all. I am on a UNIX server and am running Ultimate Bulletin Board Version 5.45c. Thanks ahead of time. --hazysky [ July 04, 2001 11:12 PM: Message edited by: hazysky ]

hmmm...I have this hack installed (it's currently disabled), and I don't remember running into any problems. It was really easy from what I remember because the whole thing runs pretty much independant of the ubb.

here's the URL... http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~madden/ubb/Ubbpoll/admin.cgi and here's what the error message is...Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, dynamic-webmaster@gamespy.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.20 Server at dynamic.gamespy.com Port 80 I tried two different things with admin.cgi.. 1. the first was using the file as it is, without altering anything (the atom911 version I believe) 2. the second was something I read in the Readme file that came with a modified version of the poll that I downloaded... this was the modified by Onkel Tom version ( http://www.hayabusa.de) Any help would be appreciated... thanks a ton ! I am having the exact same problem.. I have set up many mods as well as some of my own so I am not a novice by any means. But when I try to access the admin.cgi I get this error:
Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@gigahosts.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache/1.3.12 Server at c1003.gigahosts.com Port 80
any suggestions?

Did you follow the "unix" readme properly? Did you make all the changes in Functions.pl and Ulbpoll.setup? Did you put in the cpanel2.cgi addon?

I just followed the setup process in the readme file... I didn't get as far as altering cpanel2.cgi, cuz admin.cgi didn't work which it should have by that stage. The alterations I made where in the path to my perl, and the absolute path to my ubb which I know is correct because my ubb is working *(so it must be). I'm on a unix server with mods such as private mail already working fine, so I can't get this one figured out at all.

You need to install the cpanel2.cgi addon before admin.cgi will work or the paths will be all wrong. Make sure you did the path in Functions.pl too.

I know, working with a UBB5.4X seems like being back in the dark ages, but I STILL can't get this darn poll script to work. Could someone who has a working version please send over their copies of the modified essential scripts (I'm talking about admin.cgi, functions.pl, poll.cgi, etc.) so at least I have a set that I know are working on someone else's server, and then only have to change the path_to parts correctly for my Unix server. HELP... oh yea, my email. andy@sportplanet.com [ July 21, 2001 02:43 PM: Message edited by: Bean ]
