Works slightly different than the Active topics hack, but uses about 1/10th the code. If anyone tries it out, leave a comment. You can see it in action at the URLs below.

Can download here: http://www.gamerforums.net/misc_pages/lastposts.zip

UBB Latest Posts SSI
By: Neal Ulen ([email protected]) - GamerForums.Net
v1.0 - 10/16/00

What it does:
Extracts the last X user defined number of posts from the UBB
database and displays them on a page using SSI. There is also
an option to define forum numbers that you don't want scanned
for most recent posts (for example hosted or private forums).

What you need to do:
- Modify the one UBB file as detailed below, and upload.
- Upload the lastposts.cgi file to your UBB CGI dir, and chmod
755 if required (for you Unix boys).
- Embed the SSI in the page where you want the output. The SSI
will look something like:

What versions are covered:
This hack/mod has been verified to work on UBB v5.46, but since
the mod to the UBB code is tiny, I expect it to work on almost
all versions.

Support:
I will give minimal support. If it's not simple and obvious
what's going wrong, I won't spend any time on it.

Examples:
Unformatted output --> http://www.gamerforums.net/misc_pages/test.shtml
Integrated output --> http://www.gamerforums.net

I tried to upload it to the staging area, but it wouldn't take a zip file...at least I couldn't get it to work.

Thradar,

I like the mod dude and am using it at the moment.

I do however have one problem which I am "guessing" might be due to this mod....

The bar on peoples posts where it has the date/time of posting has dropped slightly.

I'm attributing this to the ubb_library2.pl change I had to make to use your mod.

Here's a link ::::

Can ya help me ????

You mean in an actual thread? That's the way UBB has always been, see:
http://www.moviefanonline.com/cgi-bin/ultimate/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000273.html

And look at the posts in this thread.

The small changes you made to ubb_library2.pl had nothing to do with that. The additions just appends the time to the file "dailyindex-xxxxxxx.file". It doesn't read or write anything out to a UBB page. The the program I wrote just reads info from the "dailyindex-xxxxxxx.file" file and spits it out on whatever page you embed the SSI in.

Everything looks a-okay to me...except you should widen the table that the output get spit into on your front page because the time is wrapping to the next line. [Linked Image]

Wait a minute, that doesn't look like my Lastposts hack. It looks more like the Active Topics hack.

Thradar,

It was your Lastpost hack but I changed it back to Active.cgi trying to work out the problem. That was until Allen kindly pointed out that the bar I was mentioning does contract like that whenever someone posts one line of text with no signature lol

So sorry Thradar. I'm about to resetup your mod. There is nothing wrong with your mod I love it lol [Linked Image]
