Imagine, on your UBB site, you have a link to a streaming UBB Mp3 Radio Jukebox, that provide your members the ability to play all your mp3 files live while browsing your board.
Every member can share his own files to the same community, and everyone can make their own playlists (m3u-files) of the music this community shares.
Using streaming software, that downstream your high quality mp3 files on the fly, everyone even with slow modems are able to listen to the music directly without downloading anything first.

This requires:
  • A good frontend integrated in UBB
  • A frontend that give the users full flexibility in choosing files to play, and to make and edit their own playlists
  • some of the best streaming server programs giving the horsepower in the background :-)
  • a lot of people posting good ideas and comments to this thread :-)
  • and someone good at coding PHP
I have triad out some of the programs already made for this.
I havent found something as good as I want, and neither I have found anything that easily can be integrated in the UBB.
(integration..I think of cookies, memberpermitions...whos online, and that stuff)
A nice pactical interface I have found in AGATHA that is demonstrated HERE
Agatha uses the mpg123 to take care of the downstreaming of the mp3 files.
I havent found that combination so good, but I like agatha's functionality.

Another combination is the MP3SDS that is very good in the way it uses the LAME downstreaming encoder. But the MP3SDS graphic interface and functionality itself is NOT any good, for this purpose at least laugh

As a start of my idee, and to make some of you clear in what I am looking for, I would love to combine something like Agatha's funktionality with the MP3SDS great way of using the LAME.

This is just an idea, and I am shure a lot of you folks can do it even bether.
But to make this have a chance to become something great, I hope a lot of people give constructive comments to this thread.
If it cant be done by you great UBB hack coders, we can use the discussion to define some idea what we want and ask some other place to get it done.

But join this thread and let us all hear if this could be a great hack laugh

BTW, if any of you know of better software to make this happen, I will be more than happy to hear about it.
And if that sofware can be integrated i ubb...that would be great.

well you could use something like shoutcast, after you set this up u could make a link with a icon or something then let your members use winamp to strem the mp3 audio, but members could not pick files or anything but its something u could do if a mod wasent made

H8t to pour salt on the womb but...

Not everyone has ISDN, dsl or broadband. Most peeps use 56k modem normally connected approx 40-48k. 50 - 52k if they were lucky.

Plus.. for those site that have allow rich media... (flash, asf and or a chat rooms) it's going to slow eveything right down to a 'T'.

Good idea but way too soon... i would w8 a while.... well untill over 50% of users everyone upgrade to at least ISDN (128k).

Almost 50% of users still access the internet via a 14.4 - 33.6 bps modem.

About 35% Uses the common 56k modem

Less than 10% has ISDN

others <9% own servers and have access to ADSL, DSL, T1, T3, etc.

Great spaceship you have there, UltraNEO laugh

I have tested downstreaming of mp3 files with serveral friends of mine on singel ISDN lines.
They had no problems playing mp3 files downstreamed to bitrate 32kbps.

Besides, in my country almost everyone have ISDN, and neither I think it can be an argument that many people still are on 14.4 - 33.6 bps modems.
We cant stop the world to wait for them to catch up...can we? laugh

Well i was actualllt thinkin of intergrating this into my next redesign, i thought of having a little box with select your tune, then a drop down box with all the songs available, then a play button next to it, with a stop button aswell, and next track, then when the song is selected a window pops up with a flash movie that looks like a media player, which has the song loaded into it, when it loads it plays, then the person can select what they wanna listen to on the main page, and it will change in the pop up, that way it doesnt matter where they go on the site the music wont be affected.

If I was able to code this thing, I would have done it, without offering ONE SINGLE thougth, neither on copyright issues or bandwith problems.

I cant think of one single reason to let these two issues stop an intelligent and talented coder from making one of the best and most popular hacks ever made for the UBB
