can someone tell me how I might go about adding a pm notifier? All I need it to do is, upon entering the board I want it to notify user that they have a pm by playing a sound file, like 'you got mail' or something. nothing fancy. No other links or boxes.

There are PM hacks in the beta mods forum.

um.. I know
however, I am not that cgi suave and the particular hack I am looking for isn't there.
If anyone could just break it down to me which files need to be hacked or a specific beta hack that exists that I just need to change a few lines in I would be more than willing to try this myself.
In case I wasn't clear on what I need to do, here it is again.
Whenever someone logs into the board, if they have new pm/pms, I want a wav file something like 'you got mail' to play to alert the user that he/she has new pm/pms. Nothing else. No little PM table under [user] login. No little pop-up window. Nothing else just the wav file.
If you can help me please reply. It would be much appreciated.

I was about to post something similar to this. On UBB 6.05 I had a hack that played a really short little 'thud' if they had a PM. Most of my members are more used to this than looking at the PM notification table.
Anybody willing to remake this?

Use the same hack bizkit, but you'll need to edit the hack a bit. Do you need hack with the editing of the code?

I tried the [ UBB 6.3 ] PM System 1.2 hack and I was trying to add a sound wav instead of the popup but after messing with it for about 2 hours I gave up. I tried every different way I know possible to add a sound but it just wouldn't work. Someone said to simply remove window.alert and add bgsound src in it's place, but I just couldn't figure it out. if I remove the window.alert then the inbox info under the logout link doesn't show up and I could never get any sound to play.
besides that I noticed that when I did have the hack working the way it was intended to work, the popup would notify me everytime I went back to the main forum summary page although I had already checked them. If I had 1 new pm it would say I had 2, then once I checked that pm it still said I had 1. I just hope that this can be fixed. It would be quite annoying to have a sound or popup keep recurring like that.

I looked into this issue recently, and among the several million viewers I get to my forum per month, a good percent (around 13%) don't have audio capability, whether because of a lack of speakers, sound card, or both. And a larger percent that do have sound never (or rarely) use it, at around 24%.
So, for their benefit, I decided a popup alert was the better choice, and did away with any ideas I had for a sound.
Just a suggestion...
