Whats the general opinion on this? Ive been using it as a browser for the last couple of days and i have to say that so far im pretty impressed.
It makes nutscrape look like the piece of dinosaurian rubbish that it is and although it still isnt quite as bulletproof as IE as regards to HTML code it is still loads better than NS in my opinion.
Although SpAwN - If you read this, i wouldnt look at your own board through opera if i were you. The results were..... disturbing. (my computer actually reset itself!!)

As good as it is Phil, it's going to be really tough to sell that when something this "good enough" is free.

What? Opera isn't free? I used it a looooong time ago and it was. How do they expect to grab a marketshare in a profitless market by charging money? (shakes head) ------------------ Neal 'Thradar' Ulen Webmaster www.gamerforums.net www.moviefanonline.com

It really depends on who you market it to really. And the home user will always go for IE just because it is free and comes with Windows.
Ill hope for its success anyway, it'd be a shame to see another good piece of software go ander cos of consumer laziness.....

Why bother with Opera if it costs more than $0.00? IE5.5 is great. Netscape 6 release 3 is looking pretty nice. And these are free. It makes no sense to charge. No sense at all. Especially when, in the long run, IE will always be the better when it comes out with its latest version. It's as stupid as walking up to two water fountains in the gym; one free and one costs a quarter. The one that costs a quarter isn't even filtered or spring water - but you hit that one anyway. Opera. heh ------------------ Sal Collaziano www.80sxchange.com and

But there are a lot of people that prefer opera simply because it is so lightweight....it's not bogged down with bloat. Last I knew, the download for the whole thing was like a meg or so.
To some people, that's attractive and worth the $30 licesnse fee. A lot of Linux users are excited too, because this means another (and a quality) web browser.

Man, then if they can sell something to people that they can normally get for free (and works good), then they have some sort of marketing genius working for them. ------------------ Neal 'Thradar' Ulen Webmaster - GamerForums.Net Senior Editor - Moviefan Online

Its a pretty simple marleting strategy when you think about it.
"We'll give you a product which is small, light, fast, user freindly, has very useful features, is stable, can run on just about any kind of computer and will support all the latest in internet standards. All this will cost you is $30"
Now im sorry but $30 is a pretty paltry sum. Most home users wouldnt think twice about spending much more than that on a game that they'll probably get bored of within a month. Wheras they'll probably be using the same browser for years.

I personally think Opera will be worth the money in a couple of versions time. I used the trial version and loved it, but it has a few things I didn't like, and a bug which sometimes occured if I tried to print pages out.
But compared to IE 5.5, which runs like a pregnant hippo, it's amazing. For one thing, instead of opening up multiple copies of the same program, a la IE and NS, it has every window you want running in just one part of it. It also has a nice little download log, and you can turn images on/off/download now for each individual page you view just at the click of a button. Comparatively, yeah, IE has a shed load of money, but frankly, Opera runs much nicer. As I said, there are still a couple of bugs, but I'd be happy to pay $30 to have a browser that doesn't crash or freeze all the time like IE does.
