I use an Apple Cinema Display at work, and a regular 'ol Samsung SyncMaster 700s here at home. The Cinema Display really is the best screen you'll ever find for a computer, LCD or otherwise. The picture is so sharp and clear, it's really amazing.

Since there's really no other way I can explain it, visit Apple's product info page here to learn more. If you have an Apple retailer near your house, you really should take a trip and check it out. laugh

Sorry, that display only works with a G4 Cube or G4 Tower. I remember Maximum PC had an article on how to convert the display to PC format...

I use a Sony G500 21" at work. According to the sales literature, it is 'virtually flat'. I swear it's perfectly flat. It has a very crisp image at resolutions up to 1600x1200. Above that, I notice a slight moiré effect - really depends what is on the screen. Glare is a non-issue with this monitor. If I get a reflection from the window, I just move it a few degrees.

The other engineers were so impressed, most switched to G500's. Which made a couple pencil pushers happy, cause they got the old 21"ers.

My boss just bought a refurbished LCD panel from Ubid. It runs at a resolution of 1024x768. The image is definitely crisper than the Sony CRT. But contrast is not as good as the CRT.

Ask yourself: Will I be using this display at different resolutions?

Try displaying 800x600 resolution on an LCD monitor that has 1024x768 pixels. It looks like crap. If you have any computer stores near you, go try it. Wait for the sales people to leave, then do the resolution switch. Try it on a laptop if you cannot get at the PC connected to the LCD monitor.

So if you are happy being stuck at one resolution, then by all means go for the LCD. Need versatility? Play any games? Then a CRT is a better choice.

Of course, an LCD has a high 'coolness' quotient.

I use two flat screen CRTs... This one is a Viewsonic PC790 19". The other is Dell's generic Trinitron.

Both are virtually flat (you can see the small curve in the right light), and mostly trouble free...

Thanks Charles,

I finally ordered a A Flat tube CRT . It is 17" and has a .24 mm AG dot pitch. Hopefully I'll see dark purple and not black, when I choose colors..LOL
