Simple and attractive, just how I like it . Mmmm.. Financial Times tip: for those of you who have other pepople using your computer.. Printscreen the desktop, save, and set it as the BG pic, get (or write) a program to hide your desktop icons.. and voila! Unclickable icons!

The start menu, ICQ, and Winamp were all made transparent by WindowFX, which you can get at www.stardock.net Start menu icons were changed with IconPackager, also from Stardock. And start button graphic and start bar graphic were changed with TClock - not exactly sure of the address for that, but I think you can get it at download.com. ---Skorpion

You can get most of those programs from www.deskmod.com if I'm correct. I used E-Icons & 3D Color Changer to do all the changes. I am not running anything in the background on startup, all you see is just the little volume control

Mine is relatively new, with background courtesy of Matt Jacob: https://www.ubbdev.com/templates/allensdesk.jpg (~190kb) it's a little squished because the actual screenshot was a rahter large file... I really like your desktops Skorp and GoTo... very nice... especially the icons and transparencies...

Dell was offering a "double your ram" upgrade that week... win2k on a p4 1.3ghz with 512mb ram... and still $500 cheaper than my last one Though I have had >40 windows open on my last one a few times when I was readying member spotlight site reviews... it was win2k on a p2 450 with 256mb ram (dell, naturally ;)). All these are work pc's mind you, my pc at home is a true piece of junk, and why I stay at work half the night (win98, amd k6-2 166, with 64mb ram).

How true!!! I sometimes run WindowBlinds just for fun, but usually end up turning it off after awhile. I do notice that if you have Win2000, the resource footprint of WindowBlinds seems to be drastically less than 9X, or at least I don't notice any slowdowns nearly as often. ---Skorpion

lol I just now started running it now and I don't see any differance in it (well quite frankly I don't see how my system could get any slower ) but here is a screencapture of it I like it like this http://dbz.star64.com/uploads/Vegetta69/screencapture2.jpg Skorpion when you use WindowsFX how do you get the start menu to be transparent because I can only get my dropdown menu's to do it? I think it is because I am using Win98 and you might be using Win2000 or you just have the full version

Wildcat and Dark Man X, yes, I believe the start menu can only be transparent on Windows 2000. This is because 2000 is Windows 5.0/NT kernel, and 95/98/ME are the Windows 4.0/9X kernel. The NT kernel includes better API's for things like alpha-blending and transparency. On 9X, WindowFX actually does not make anything *really* transparent. It takes a picture of whatever is going to be under the menu, and interlaces that picture onto the background of the menu. And since the Start Menu is, according to Windows, not technically a real menu, WFX does not do it's job when Start menu is open, because it doesn't realize that it's a menu. On Win2000, the Start Menu is treated much more like a standard menu. And WFX uses W2K's inherent API's for the alpha-blending so the menus are truly transparent. I'm sure that was way more of an answer than you were interested in knowing, but that's why. ---Skorpion

Using version 3 (and the command line version, not the graphical/screensaver version) takes me roughly 7 to 8 hours to complete (I think). Its hard to say because my average stats are high due to old versions, older slower computers, and the screensaver version. When I switched to version 3, the screensaver took about 25 hours on my old pc. The command line version on that machine (under unix now, not windows) take about 8 hours. This new win machine is much quicker though. In the 3 weeks ive been using these two machines in tandom, my average time has gone down from like 12:36 to 11:56 and still dropping with each completed unit. --mark

LOL! I find it hilarious that most people running ICQ are in hidden mode. What's the point? Oh, unless you add every Tom, Dick, and Harry to your contact list. I have 3 on my contact list....all are close PERSONAL friends, not Joe Blow on the other end of the wire. Hell, even I hide from them.
