OMG.. I am so freaked out. My website, http://www.thunderwave.net has just been hacked.. I don't get it either! How does other websites like UBBDev.com and lets say.. Yahoo.com not get hacked? I mean, I never gave out my FTP information to anyone but my co-webmaster and he never tells that to anyone because he knows I don't.. How can I keep my website hack-proofed?

well, i've seen some exploits on the net to be used with UBB... but i never really seen nobody telling it works, maybe some moderator or any experienced user can explain if UBB can be hacked remotly or not.
Btw, you should make backups everytime... i do backups of my board everyday!!!!!!

There are a million ways to hack a website and then make it travel through to a UBB™, wheather or not your UBB™ is bullet proof in secure code or not. There are probably more reasonable ways you got hacked. Some cracker could've weaseled into your server and found your main folder fun to look at. Probably just a script kiddie, IMHO.

We've had more than our share of "hack"s - I believe each were due to lax security settings on our server... since fixed

Hackers have other ways of hacking forum, Hacking into a FTP means they hack your FTP to get the pass and then they enter.

Well. How can I secure my server more? Buy dedicated servers? Because I don't have the money yet but was looking to get one in 2002.

If you're on a shared server, it's primarily your hosts responsible to secure your server (of course having hard to guess passwords also helps).
If you're on a dedicated server, the onus is ually on you to keep up w/ security patches and stuff.
