Hya.....I am not sure if this is the best place to post this, but here goes!!!
Search Function Screwed Up in XP!
I develop alot of cgi scripts, and one of the most handy features of 98se find function was the "find files containing text" search! This was usefull in a number of ways, the main one being searching for all cgi files containing a referance to a specific variable or library!
I have just tried this operation in Windows XP ( after getting rid of the bloody animated character) and the search did not come up with any results even though I know for a fact that it should have done! "All files and folders" was selected, and I double and triple checked all the advanced options!
Example for you to try:
1) Make sure that you have unchecked "hide extensions for known file types" in Folder Options => View!
2) Create a new text document in a folder of your choosing!
3) Open the text document, type any word you like (e.g. fridge)
4) Save and close the document!
5) Rename the text document "test.cgi" (anything will do as long as it has a .cgi extension)
6) Browse to the folder containing the document you have just created.
7) Click on search in the opened browser window
8) Enter into the "a word or phrase in the file" box the word you typed into the created file (e.g. fridge)
9) Make sure that you are including in your search "All Files and Folders" in the more advanced options!
10) Hit the search button!
Please let me know the results you have...I have tried it on 2 systems with different installs so far, and neither has worked, yet I have spoken to 2 people it did work for and about 10 others that it didn't work for!
