For those of you who would like to play chess against one another we have set up a chess room.

[Linked Image]
You can set up your own board against your opponent.

To make the game a bit more interesting, you might want to IM your opponent with AIM, MSN, ICQ, or whatever.

We will also be organizing a round-robin tournement in the near future, so get practicing!

The Chess Room can be found at: https://www.ubbdev.com/chess/board.pl

Just a notice, it's very recommended to add a password in your and your opponent's first steps, otherwise other people can "take over" your game..

BTW, the score between tacks and me is 1-1 laugh

Is it possible to somehow implement games such as these on to the UBB so that only members of your board can play using the login info from the board..? Someone has created a little tetris script on vB that does exactly that, and it keeps a record of the scores too..

I'm very interested in playing chess anytime someone wants to challenge me.. smile

oh yes... ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=chess

member names already added in like the chat script.

Is there a checkers one? That would probably be more inviting on most boards as the gameplay is easier smile

Actually, it would be cool being integrated. You could play either in a public forum, or by PM.

It would be cool to have a board graphic displaying each movement (although max images would have to be changed)

Also would be neat to have statistics

This looks really cool... Though I haven't played chess for a year, so I'm probably terrible at it now. frown

Urgh..
Apart from a slightly different chess game to this one.. Preferably one that used hypercell like cells so that you could click a peice, then select the cell you wanted to move it to instead of having to type the command..

I'd try and bring some of the games back, but.. I'm too lazy.. tipsy

In 1997 Gary Kasparov was beaten by Deep Blue, a chess playing IBM RS/6000. Since then IBM decided to discontinue the Deep Blue project.

Enter Deep Fritz; programmed by a group of computer and chess experts.

Since then Deep Fritz has beaten Deep Blue and Kasparov, and is now taking on World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik, who ended Kasparov's 15 year reign as world champion.

Fritz and Vlady have been dueling in what is called, "Brains in Bahrain" an 8 game match.

After a first game draw, Kramnik opened up the match with two straight wins. They drew again in game 4, but Fritz has fought back with two straight victories to even up the match, with two games remaining!

More info can be found at Chessbase

In UBBDev Chess Action, Deep Ayres continued to battle Deep Tacks as they open the third game in their match; Deep LK and Deep Tacks remained embroiled in the world's slowest moving match.

Game #7 ended in a draw. The final game of the match on Saturday will determine the winner.

If Kramnik wins, he gets a Million Dollars. A draw earns him $800K and if Fritz beats him, $600K.

Also interesting, an analysis of Game Six, in which Kramnik resigned, showed that he could have possibly played for a draw.

In UBBDev Chess News, Charles Capps risks defaulting his match to Deep Ayres for not making a move within the time limit. The technical victory would be the first for Deep Ayres tipsy
