I think less people are modifying their UBB since it now comes with most of the features that people were adding on their own.

Also some boards outgrew UBB and switched to UBB.threads or they were unhappy with their web host so they switched to Infopop hosting and got a free UBB.x.

To be honest you have to consider the option that they've gone over to *other* systems. The number of people doing the hacks has decreased dramatically. We have people here that are porting hacks, and thank god for them. we have LK and CC and some others that are doing hacks but with the new CP less people are able to do these things. The new CP is awesome to use but a lot more difficult to modify.

I would love to see more hacks ported (especially the backup hack) but the few people doing it have real lives to lead as well. There are a lot of really good hack suggestions that have been posted but there aren't any devs stepping up to do them, and that's totally understandable since they don't get paid to do them.

There are free BBS systems out there that have tons of features and are extremely efficient with active communities. I love UBB but I have a license that isn't in use right now (I have two total) and I may give it to a charity site if I'm allowed to.

I'm sorry for not porting some hacks right now, but with all of my schoolwork it's been heck just to support the ones I have out now. Around December 15th I'll be able to start porting stuff over, but by then we'll be getting ready for 6.7 frown

I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining at all, I apologize if I came across that way. The whole idea of a community like this is that a lot of people contribute what they can and everyone benefits in one way or another. I don't have much to contribute since I'm a systems/network engineer and work 14 hours a day it seems so I don't write or port hacks.

I try to talk a lot though, and that can be helpful at times (at least I like to think so).

I find it a bit funny former and current moderators are discussing this. How well moderators support their forums by answering questions and adding new content make a huge difference in how busy any site is - just like Randy hinted. We can blame it on the developers, that'd be easy, but is only part of the answer tipsy

I'd like to see more development, but the learning curve with the new cp is kinda steep, and most of us have jobs we have to pay bills with - there's only so many hours in a day and play time on a computer isn't always at the top of the list when it comes to how we use those few extra hours tipsy

I have to agree with AA on this one. I remember how painful it was for me to leave UBBDev as a moderator. It just wasn't fair for me to be one though... when I couldn't be active and atentive to my duties. *shrug*

Heck, most of the moderators here have their own forums as well.... how much time do we have for all our hobbies? I gave up many of my online hobbies for a few "real life" ones. Best choice I ever made. laugh

I was only a mod for a short time, and the forum I modded was not busy or popular at all but it was fun being here doing it. My time is so wrapped up with my job, in fact I'm posting this from the Westin Bonaventure in LA after a day of setting up the servers/network for the PDC event starting Sunday morning. I'm trying to find time to build an asp.net site for Netwerkin.net but I find myself back here looking for new info, hacks etc.

It's a sickness I tell ya. It's a fantastic hobby and beats the hell out of drinking (the hobby I had till 3 years ago December).

I've been suffering from a bout of realifitis.

Work has been super busy. I haven't had much time for any of my online interests, and my personal site dev has been non-existant as well, sometime I question why I am bothering paying for hosting that isn't being used.

Hopefully things will settle down soon.

I'm in the same boat. Real life stuff has been like climbing a mountain. I'm hoping I'm at least nearing the peak it.
