I checked the following list, which host would you recommend ? (price/service etc..) http://www.dedicated-hosting-servers.com/top10.html I am particulary tempted by CI hosting since you can get a free server when you take 1 thanks [ May 11, 2001 06:49 AM: Message edited by: Chuck ]

[edit] http://www.4webspace.com/order.html Haven't used them but about the same price but less xfer.... [/edit] [ May 12, 2001 02:57 PM: Message edited by: The Prohacker ]

I checked webhosting talks and they seem to say that raq is not the best because the control panel lacks a lot of features.
would you know any other good ones that maybe use something like Cpanel (I looks good and simple to use)

Cpanel is usually offered on shared servers, because of how expensive it is.....

ok then no cpanel but maybe something powerfull enough to configure everything, from what I read, cobalts are a little difficult fot the end user if you want to set-up sub domains etc ... Or maybe can you give me more informations on raqs (maybe you have one and know some tricks on how to use then efficiently ) (and thanks for your help )

RAQ's are very easy to setup, domains are just as easy, you just click add new domain, and enter you information.... I personally have 4 raq's and 2 qubes, and 14 linux servers. On the linux servers I run Webmin The cobalts are very easy to setup and maintain, and perfect for the first time dedicated buyer. I personally perfer my linux servers because I customize almost everything about them.....

ok, I dunno, I have a little apprehansion, I feel like I won't be able to do what ever I want on the server.
Also, since every software needs to be approved, it makes things a little more complicated, for exemple, MYsql is not installed.
any one having comments about raqs 4i ?
I will need to host about 3 or 4 ubbs and about 10-20 sites with a lot of subdomains.

In the control pannel you have an area to install software packages made by Sun Cobalt, one package is Mysql, they also have php and more...
You can find many good linux hosts that don't do cobalt, but I really haven't found a good one for $100/month.....

control panel looks simple enough but you don't have much power on teh server itself (in my opinion) please note that I am not ranting I am just trying to make sure I am not missing any key feature

One thing about dedicated servers that you'll almost always have to do, is update and install your own software, if you want PHP/MySql installed before you get a server, you'll have to pay for it, but installing it yourself is very very easy...
For the Cobalts, the only complaint about them is CGIWrap, which is a program that will make cgi more secure......

linux packages at cihost looked good, but then I am told support is getting worse and worse, and some people had trouble with the accounting department.

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10689 Haven't used them, but they sound bad.... Of course, I don't know if those problems would plague the dedicated side.... [ May 12, 2001 04:59 PM: Message edited by: The Prohacker ]

You could check: http://www.hostsearch.com/ But webhosting talk is prolly the best way to find out if a host is good, you'll get people's personal experince with certain hosts.....
