UBBDEV Members,

Some of you may have noticed that, along with all of the other changes, we are not using the word "hack" anymore, but instead using the word "mod." I would like to explain our reasons for this right now.

In order for this site to achieve all of the goals that Allen, myself and now Deb have outlined for it, we needed to remove any negative stigmas that may have been previously attached. This included certain administrators/moderators (who are no longer "employed"), the name itself (i.e. UBB Code Hacking Hideout), and of course, the word "hack."

We felt that the word "hack" alluded to illegal activity, when in fact this is far from the truth (at least in reference to this site). Therefore, we adopted the word "mod" instead.

I hope that clears up any confusion that you might have had. If you have any further questions or comments, please post them in the forum and we'll be more than happy to answer them for you.

Regards,

Digital Boy

Yaaaaaay! FINALLY someone has realised that 'hack' was only a term coined by some wannabe-cool small-timer at the scriptkeeper forums.

... Oops, there I go missing out the "IMHO" bit again. [Linked Image]

There is no "I" in borg..LOL Actually Hacking and Phreaking whether intended or not just sound negative..

Oh No, now we're in the 70's, "Hey Mon, got any mod's.."

ATOM - While this may be true, it's still considered a negative term in the business community. In fact, just the other day a webmaster contacted me about this very thing; seems he was afraid of linking to a site that used to be into "hacking."

I think the trouble is most people assign a bad meaning to hacking, confusing it with cracking and phreaking and lots of other umm *king words.. It's such a hard word to use now, because to some people in the world it has one meaning, and to everyone else, it's a baaaadddd thing.. So mod is probably an improvement, because you can avoid all the problems, also, by eliminating the mod word from everywhere, you hopefully avoid people (read : idiots) thinking that this is about getting warez versions of the UBB, or other equally illegal things..

Lucia -

As we've mentioned before, one of our main goals when we started this site was to mature our demographic. We wanted to appeal to the larger population of business developers. Doing away with the work "hack" was one way of doing this.

Well as one of the newer people here I can definitely say that you're close to achieving your goal.. I never knew this place as a hacking place, so the impression I have is of more of a coding site, much like I see something like www.webreference.com, only this site has a more personal feel, since the forums are a major part..
