A Fin is killed during bombing (it's in the links)

Yeah, but he's blaming the zend company for the bombing (and using lots of racial slurs in the process) - sounds like a real nut case and no big loss if you ask me smile

Well, actually I don't know the importance of this guy in the PHP community. The only PHP person I know is Rasmus Lerdorf smile It looks like he did some important stuff, but I'm not sure (for example) if he is comparable to Perl' s Jarkko Hietaniemi. Jarkko is an important person in the Perl community IMO.

Anyway, all sites have the same title "Lead Developer Quits PHP" and I thought it is important smile

I was reading about this the other day as well. From what I understand the current project he was working on (Zend Engine II) is fronted by a few people from Israel, and after the bombings he refused to work for them. Here's a list of things he has contributed to:

Jani has contributed to php.net in the following ways over the last 12 months:

* as a lead developer for Zend Engine II
* as a lead developer for TSRM (Thread Safety Resource Management)
* by testing and maintaining the build for the PHP core
* by writing/maintaining tests for the standard functions in the PHP core
* as a lead developer for gd, a core extension
* by working as a developer on imap, a core extension
* by working as a developer on session, a core extension
* by working as a developer on sockets, a core extension
* by providing occasional fixes for the testsuite distributed with PHP
* by applying maintenance fixes to the underlying libraries in bcmath, pcre and xmlrpc
* by providing tests and occasional fixes for xml
* by providing occasional fixes for apache2filter, apache2handler, apache_hooks, cgi, cli, dba, dom, iconv, informix, isapi, ldap, mcrypt, mcve, mime_magic, msql, mssql, mysqli, mysql, ncurses, oci8, odbc, openssl, oracle, pgsql, recode, snmp, soap, sqlite, sybase, tidy and tokenizer
* by writing/maintaining tests for mbstring, mhash, pcntl, pspell, shmop and wddx
* by working as a developer on bugs.php.net

Yes, but still a nut case - he's blaming a company headquartered in Israel for a war the govt./military is running. Whatever side you are on regarding the war, it's a bit ridiculous to blame zend for it tipsy Would be like blaming Monkee for the high price of gas. wink That's not including the racial slurs he throwing around and the calls to 'nuke the jews'. Good riddance I say... if hitler wrote code I wouldn't be sad to see him quit in a huff wink I imagine he's going off to make money in more lucrative pursuits...

Yeah I agree completely, from what I read his comments are in no way justified... I'm sure I must be missing something, or else that guy is just nuts.

(is it just me or are the dates on the posts off for everyone else too?)
